A prominent Staten Island pediatrician accused of mowing down a dad and his 6-year-old daughter before leaving the scene of a January crash paid a $300 fine to make it all go away.
Dr. Sam Leuzzi, 66, of Middletown, N.J., cut a plea deal with the Staten Island District Attorney’s office this month where he receives no prison time — just a fine and community service, court records show.
But the pain lingers for Guy Seth and daughter Zoey, who both suffered traumatic brain injuries, and Malgorzata (Gosia) Seth, the wife and mom who became their caretaker.
Dr. Sam Leuzzi is a prominent pediatrician on Staten Island. He was arrested in January on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it, a misdemeanor, cops said.
“Dr. Leuzzi destroyed our life on January 9th. We wish we could pay $300 to someone and get our life back!” Guy Seth fumed to The Post.
Leuzzi drove his black GMC truck into Seth and Zoey, who was sitting on her dad’s shoulders while crossing the busy corner of Arthur Kill and Drumgoole roads in Greenridge with the family Yorkie around 5:10 p.m., police said. They were in the crosswalk.
“I would love to know why he [Leuzzi] left the scene of the accident. It just boggles my mind,” said Seth, 52, a former NYPD maintenance worker who still suffers from chronic headaches, double vision, facial numbness and “severe hearing loss” in his left ear.
Guy Seth and his 6-year-old daughter Zoey were crossing the street inside of the designated crosswalk an intersection on Staten Island Jan. 9 when they were struck by a black truck, police said.

I’m pretty sure that if I got into a hit-and-run and tore off a guy’s bumper, I would end up paying a heck of a lot more than $300. “Hit and run is a serious crime, buddy!” But I’m a nobody. So I’d be screwed. He’s a somebody, so he’ll be alright.
So guy did stick around and offered assistance until the ambulance arrived according to the article. Then he skipped out before authorities could question him.
But they look fine in the photo.
It's hard to say if they're telling the truth, or inventing or exaggerating their injuries (with a complicit doctor) for a big payday.
Juries hate insurers and are very sympathetic to injured children. If there's any doubt, the jury will side with the latter.

They have brain damage.
This is not nearly enough punishment for doing that to a family.
This reminds me of a case in Richmond back around 1989 or so when a girl from an old money country club family killed an entire family because she was drunk and driving well over the speed limit.
She got out of jail because the judge said having a guilty conscience is punishment enough.
She would still be in the slammer if she was a redneck from Varina (’burb of Richmond).
Now this is the kind of sentence I would support if he hit a relative of mine cause its a lot easier to get to him outside jail.
Believe me, he would be wishing he got a jail sentence instead.
You can’t make a fair judgment based on how a person looks.
I have Stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer. I’m 71 and have extreme fatigue, the likes of which I could never imagine. I look like I’m very healthy, but I’m not. I was diagnosed just over 10 years ago and got a handicapped license plate; and I need it
Brain injury sometimes has physical manifestations that appear on X-Rays or CAT-Scans. And sometimes not.
If these people fall into the latter category, then it's difficult to tell if they're telling the truth or lying.
As an example, lawyers love "soft tissue injury" (whiplash) cases because while it's real, it often presents no physical evidence apart from the patient complaining of pain. So it's easy to seek settlements for a lot of fake injuries.
Well, the civil suit will at least begin to set things straight. The good doctor had better get used to commuting by bicycle.

So now the victims blame the city?
Article says the doc stayed at the scene of the accident for 20 minutes! Doesn’t sound like an HAR to me.
I hate reckless drivers but i also know people fake injuries all the time to get money.
Why do you say that? Slur against Italian-Americans?
The reporter probably meant to say "traumatic brain injury" (TBI). That does not show on the outside, but it happens when there is a powerful blow to the head, as when you are thrown to the street by a car and your brain shakes around inside your skull, developing internal bruising, bleeding, and the death of some tissues, blood vessels and nerves. Symptoms of disturbed brain function, extreme irritabiity and cognitive difficulties take a long time to recover from and in some cases can last a lifetime.
Several of us freepers who volunteered at Walter Reed learned a lot about TBI, and how civilians often simply dismiss it because it doesn't show on the outside.
There was an accident near Tulsa not long ago. Kid driving too fast blew through a stop sign and hit a horse and rider. Killed the horse, severely injured the rider and three others in the car. The mother of one of the kids, the worst injured, made her way to channel 6 news to tell her sob story. She is wanting riders of horses to be required to wear reflective and high visibility gear and all stop signs to be lit with flashers. Typical of so many, looking for an excuse and how to make it the fault of someone else. Probably knows the kid driving does not have access to money so she has been coached to find deeper pockets.
