Trudeau government to send $250 cheques to most people, slash GST on some goods

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Thursday a suite of new measures meant to alleviate some of the affordability pressures people have been experiencing in the post-COVID era — including a two-month GST holiday on some goods and services.

The Liberal government will also send $250 cheques to the 18.7 million people in Canada who worked in 2023 and earned $150,000 or less.

Those cheques, which the government is calling the "Working Canadians Rebate," will arrive sometime in "early spring 2025," Trudeau said.

The GST/HST holiday will start on Dec. 14 and run through Feb. 15, 2025.

People will be able to buy the following goods GST-free:

Prepared foods, including vegetable trays, pre-made meals and salads, and sandwiches.

Restaurant meals, whether dine-in, takeout or delivery.

Snacks, including chips, candy and granola bars.

Beer, wine, cider and pre-mixed alcoholic beverages below 7 per cent alcohol by volume (ABV).

Children's clothing and footwear, car seats and diapers.

Children's toys, such as board games, dolls and video game consoles.

Books, print newspapers and puzzles for all ages.

Christmas trees.

With these exemptions, all food in Canada will be essentially tax-free.

Is he up for re-election?

Throwing people scraps as if he’s doing them a favor.

That’s no favor, that’s an insult.

Is there an election coming? Because that’s the type of crap politicians doe before an election.

And if they can afford to forgo their tax collections AND hand out cash…I would think the government must be in great shape! LOL

He has to hold an election in less than a year. He’s been Prime Minister of Canada since 2015. Whether you like him or not people in Canada are sick of looking at him. He’s overstayed whatever welcome he had. Oh and his wife left him too. She’s written a tell all book.

The problem comes back to honest elections.

If the NWO/globalists want him in, they will make sure he gets enough votes.

Check back in a year or less. We’ll see if they want him still.

That’s pretty cheap. $250? You can buy people for peanuts, I guess.

We also get quarterly G.S.T. rebates (for lower half of incomes) on a similar scale to this one-time vote buyer. We’ve had several others in past years, basically, I am sure most of these small sums go into extra food shopping and discretionary travel, so the real beneficiaries are business interests.

I doubt it will save Trudeau from losing the widely expected 2025 election. Only unknown is election date, we don’t often do winter elections so April or may is most likely.
