China’s Soaring Emissions Are Upending Climate Politics
New York Times ^ | 18th november 2024 | Brad Plumer and Mira Rojanasakul

For many years, wealthy places like the United States and Europe have had the biggest historical responsibility for global warming and have been tasked with taking the lead in stopping it.

China’s astonishing rise is upending that dynamic.

Over the past three decades, China has built more than 1,000 coal-fired power plants as its economy has grown more than 40-fold. The country has become by far the largest annual emitter of greenhouse gases in the world.

...Last year, China for the first time passed Europe as the second-largest historical emitter, according to an analysis published on Tuesday by Carbon Brief, a climate research site.

China, for its part, has promised that its emissions will peak this decade and then start falling. The country is installing more wind turbines and solar panels than all other nations combined and leads the world in electric vehicle sales. But even with China’s shift to low-carbon energy, the Carbon Brief analysis found, the nation’s historical emissions are projected to approach those of the United States in the coming years.

...Leaders from both the United States and European Union have called on China to contribute more climate finance to poorer countries as part of a final deal at Baku.

Sorry NYT. I call BS on China’s alternative energy ambitions. When you build 1000 coal fired plants, a million windmills won’t mitigate it.

The last graph, declining CO2 emissions, reflects the success of Bill Gates vaccines in eliminating the human species.

We should all Hope and Pray that they continue to accelerate adding carbon to the atmosphere in the hopes it is enough to stave off the NEXT ICE AGE which is Absolutely Guaranteed to happen.

Actually China is also building nuclear power plants as part of their long term strategy. What is missed in all of this is that if you have cheap energy you can invent your own future. If you don’t you can’t.

That chart needs to be renormalzed to per capita. And what about agricultural burnoff like is practiced in Africa contributing to a major per capita release of CO2.

Deep State has been exporting record amounts of US energy for years...

Where’s it going?

To a lot of countries refusing to walk their climate change talk...?

The whole climate thing s BS. CO2 and Methane make up 0.0417% of the atmosphere yet trap enough energy to change the climate? As CO2 levels rise trees and other plants increase there ability absorb CO2 by increasing stomas

Notice the mind trick they play by looking at "cumulative" totals, as if what was done in the past has any bearing on reducing what is happening now.

Also notice this was not reported until after the election.

This article is attempting to mitigate what most people are finally learning: China is emitting twice the carbon the USA is, so reducing USA emissions is a futile effort unless China does as well, and China isn't doing anything significant.

The entire article is premised on the false assumptions that reducing carbon emissions will make a significant difference, that we can predict climate decades in advance, that we are not heading into a natural cool period, and many others.

Again, America's climate policies/remedies are miniscule and useless because of china and india. We blow a lot of smoke but the whole charade is beyond ludicrous.

Plus, we send our recyclable materials to the above countries? Liberals. (Spit!)

Silly NYT, everybody knows that Chinese and Third World CO2 does not affect climate change. Only American CO2 does that.
