It is hard for progressives right now. The rejection of the progressive project in the election of Donald Trump has resulted in a few unfortunately dependable reactions.
This follows on the heels of a couple of years of freefall for progressive churches.
The author here anticipates more bad behavior and fragility of character from himself and his compatriots. Rather than seeing the exodus from churches like his as a sane response to leftist hysteria, he blames Trump for the inability of attendees to hear his gospel.
It's a real piece of work. But it is worth talking through, I think, in order to anticipate the anxieties and moral failures of clergy and laity who are going insane, and to protect ourselves from the same failings when our own politics fail.

I’d say this Jason Wellman is a heretic, just like Al not so Sharpton, Bishop William “buffet slayer” Barber and John Pavlolitz.
What does this so-called pastor expect when progressives proclaim Easter Sunday as being transgender day of visibility?
I’m not surprised progressive “churches” are losing members. People have had enough.
Don’t know who this pastor is & what he preaches, but he claims to be a progressive, so I have my own ideas about what path he is on & what he is preaching.
Trumps fault again.

Well, that’s a surprise. I thought every bad thing was due to Climate Change.
Dang!
I was hoping it was Jesus' fault!
This pastors church needs to hold a free and fair election methinks.
The exit from the liberal churches has been going on for decades. It accelerated after the year 2000 and accelerated further after 2010
Trump was a member of a liberal presbyterian church—and then left for the reasons that everyone else left.
The Word is Life. These heretic churches preach a false Gospel that only leads to death. They are losing members because they offer nothing.
Yeah, she’s right. I left the United Methodist Church in 2006 because Donald Trump told me to. <”Rolleyes”>
Progressive churches are just intermediate points for future atheists.
Let them
They will keep doing what they are doing and more will leave.
If they dont realize they are the problem, they won’t change and keep driving people away.
You forgot Antipope Francis.
Stay outta Ebb’s lane!
Actually, it’s a man. Rev. Jason Wellman at Scioto Ridge UMC.
