Americans are becoming all too familiar with the phrase “house rich, cash poor,” as a growing number of middle-class adults report spending more than 30% of their income on housing costs.
With rising home prices, stagnating wages, and relatively high mortgage rates, that once-reliable housing benchmark is becoming harder to maintain.

Gee it almost like our high schools should be teaching basic life skills instead of critical race theory and LGBTQP dogmas
Ah, The Money Pit. Movie’s hilarious.
We have no mortgage, and are still paying a large percent of our income on just the taxes and insurance, as well as setting aside a bit each month for maintenance and repairs. Took a $5,000 deductible on the homeowners’ insurance this time, just to make it more affordable.
Not me - thanks to Obamacare and our stupid state “marketplace” requirements, I get to bankrupt myself on health insurance instead
Oh no, never ever do this.
My daughter owns a lovely new house and complains every day about the ridiculous property tax in our city.
She’s considering buying another house in a different county. I’d hate to see her go. Her wonderful husband died last year, and her brother, my son, the year before.

Just curious... what is the property tax $ amount that she considers ridiculous?
The taxes on property are essential to support our school system and government. I do not like it but understand it. When an idividual reaches full retirement age he has paid these taxes over his full working life. They should then be exempt. These taxes in effect are causing old people to sell their homes due to taxes they can not pay. They then move into homes of their children or small cheap apartments. This is not right!

It was actually sort of remake of a Cary Grant movie called "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House."
One of my favorites. If you can find the book it is well worth a read.
Exactly.
Depends on the locality. I don’t think it is essential to spend millions on providing drugs and related services to homeless camps full of thieves and criminals. Or to spend a million on a public port-a-potty in a park (happened in SF). Lots of waste of taxpayer dollars. On non-essential stuff. Property taxes are too damn high.
