Florida’s pro-abortion amendment falling slightly short of passage among early voters

CV NEWS FEED // A poll of early voters in Florida shows that the state’s abortion amendment is just short of passing, with less than 58% of early voters supporting it. The measure needs 60% of the votes to pass.

Florida Politics reports that a poll from St. Pete Polls shows that 37% of early voters opposed Amendment 4, which would allow abortion up until viability (around 24 weeks) or “when necessary,” as CatholicVote previously reported.

Another 5% of early voters did not respond to whether or not they voted in favor of the ballot.

St. Pete Polls found that 79% of Democrat early voters favored the measure, and 15% opposed it. The polls also found 59% of Republicans voted in favor of the measure, and 32% opposed it. 57% of Independent voters favored the measure, and 36% opposed the measure.

In a broader poll including Floridians who had not yet voted, 54% of likely voters said they opposed the ballot measure, which is still below the required 60%.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) warned of the many dangers of Amendment 4, including its removal of parental consent requirements for minors to receive an abortion.

He also warned that any “health care provider” can approve an abortion after viability, which would allow “anyone from the clinic receptionist to a physical therapist or a nutritionist” to approve a late second or third trimester abortion.

It may fall short, but it is still showing a bit over half want it passed. Now, who could possibility be in favor of this to get a bit over half the vote?

Watch the pro-aborts screech about “Democracy!!!” if the amendment doesn’t reach 60%.

I think that Benchmark is actually good, and wish it were 67%. A sizable majority is needed to ratify amendments with such grave implications.

I’m in Florida. There’s a legalize Marihuana amendment on the ballot. The advertising for that was one hundred percent pro passage. The early turnout has been astonishing. I was figuring it was Leftists voting for the legalization amendment. I thought the ride-along votes would be on the abortion amendment which is couched in don’t let the government interfere with abortion. Apparently, I was wrong.

In Florida anyone can add an amendment to the constitution by popular vote. It’s crazy. There was one for outlawing birthing crates for pigs. There was one farm that used them as pork isn’t big here. (They use them to stop the mother from eating her young.) Another one that passed is that there will be a high-speed rail line from Tampa airport to Orlando. That would be insanely expensive and useless as there’s no way to get around Orlando without a car. The place is HUGE and no real public transport. But, there it is, crapping up the constitution. Crazy.

Living here in Florida, what I’ve noticed is the Pro-Life Anti-Amendment 4 group including Ron DeSantis have been putting out a lot of very effective ads in the last 2 weeks which I think are having an effect.

For a long time, I didn’t see any ads opposing Amendment 4, plenty of ads supporting Amendment 4 have been running for a significantly longer time.

If this amendment fails, in Florida a 60% vote is required to pass a State Constitutional Amendment, the key provisions of the Amendment that will kill it are 3rd trimester abortions and lack of parental notification and approval for minors seeking abortion, a lot of Pro-Choice supporters can’t go for 3rd trimester abortions and lack of parental support.

“Trump is pushing Amendment 3...”

It’s not possible to find a politician who perfectly mirrors your views. It will never happen. You have to make an overall value judgement. Republicans, meh. Democrats, EEEVILLL.

I've heard some of that advertising. Their main thrust is get state sanctioned weed -- it's safe because there's no fentanyl in it, you know, because that street sh*t could kill you.

The libertarian in me wants this to pass but the realist in me, because I know what I've been seeing since pot became legal and people becoming more cognitively addled and less able to think properly by smoking/vaping cannabis, wants this to fail.
