Happened very quickly with VA case, but as pointed out above, this nonsense will most likely not survive the NC Supremes.

Okay wait a minute.

A military member is not required to change residency when they are assigned to a new base. This is typical if that military person ever was stationed in Texas and its zero state income tax.

And so a military person on an NC base can vote there while all records of that person show they were never a resident, and this can remain so if that person is transferred overseas. “Residency” will be recorded as Texas, they spent time in NC (and it will never show up as such), and then go overseas and request an NC ballot.

This is not the overly horrible thing suspected.

This will get a lot of attention here but its not a big deal. The numbers are relatively small. Service members do not choose North Carolina as their domicile. They choose states with no income tax.

All US citizens overseas should have a passport or military ID. Those would be better than “nothing”.

It is a serious error to involve courts in these matters, or to pay attention to “rulings” that they have no authority to issue.

In this case, appointment of electors is a reserved power of State Legislatures. Rules they make for this purpose cannot be “unconstitutional” unless they violate a specific Article or Amendment.
