Washington Post staffers suspect owner Jeff Bezos holding up Kamala Harris endorsement: report
New York Post ^

Washington Post staffers are growing restless over the left-leaning paper’s silence on endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for president — with many suspecting that owner Jeff Bezos is behind the delay, according to a report.

Some insiders speculate the billionaire Amazon founder, who has not spoken publicly about the 2024 election, does not want to alienate Republican challenger Donald Trump as he gains momentum to recapture the White House next month, the Status newsletter reported Tuesday.

The newspaper’s editorial board is believed to have written its backing for the Democrat but has not gotten the go-ahead to publish it from Bezos and Publisher Will Lewis, wrote former CNN media observer Oliver Darcy, who launched Status after leaving the network in August.

The WaPo staffers are perplexed over the Beltway broadsheet remaining mum given that 20 million voters have already sent in their ballots and Election Day is less than two weeks away, he added.

The newspaper supported Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020, publishing its endorsements much earlier in past election cycles. The New York Times endorsed Harris on Sept. 30.

The Post has sought comment from the Washington Post and Bezos.

Bezos, the second-richest person in the world with a net worth valued by Bloomberg Billionaires Index at $208 billion as of Thursday, was a frequent target of Trump during his first term in office — mainly due to the Washington Post’s coverage of his administration.

The paper’s silence comes against the backdrop of the drama playing out in the Los Angeles Times newsroom, where the editorial board was blocked from publishing its Harris endorsement by the outlet’s billionaire owner, Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong.

Do these egomaniacs think people are waiting around telling them how to vote? Anyone stupid enough to read that propaganda rag in the first place is already on board with the leftists.

Bezos remembers what happened with the DoD AWS deal during Trump’s first term.

I’d LMAO if he ordered his paper to endorse orange man bad. Once all the leftists tw*ts quit in a huff he can hire normal people.

None of the Big Tech CEOs will want to get on the wrong side of Trump again.

Yes they do. They think the readers of the paper, are waiting to see who they endorse.

They think a newspaper endorsement will help sway undecided voters.

Do newspapers have that influence nowadays, if indeed they ever did?

Whatever the case, it seems odd that a newspaper which publicly endorsed Democrats in the past has refrained from such an endorsement now

Probably still waiting to see if his name is scrubbed from the lists.

Kabuki theater. Bezos is a Democrat, which was a stipulation of being able to buy the paper from the Graham family.

Can’t the Post get a DNC hitman to take him out? How dare Bezos hold up his endorsement for Willie Brown’s hooker! Hrumpf! Hrumpf! “Media Mafia” clowns.

The smart money is seeing the trend is Trump now so a Harris endorsement at this point might be counterproductive.

The Compost is going to be viciously attacking President Trump for the next four years—no harm if they get an early start.

Lol.

Meatballs who need to be influenced by a elitest, celebrity meathead should not be allowed to vote. I’m glad that I was born at a hospital where they “assigned” me a brain so I could do my own thinking and not have to depend on a celebrity to make decisions for me.

The longer Bezos waits, the more people will have already voted.

I remember the Hartford Courant endorsed Reagan in 84. Nobody could believe it. It was obvious from all the editorials from the prior years that it was a hard lefty rag. All the editorial staff protested shortly after.

The area I live in is likely to go 70/30 for Trump at a minimum, but the local left-wing birdcage liner dutifully published their Kamala endorsement this morning.

Gist of the editorial is basically “we know Trump is very popular in this area but we think he’s Bad Orange Hitler and a mean old poopyhead”.

The circulation of this rag is dropping faster than former boy band members off of hotel balconies.

It’s not going to change anyone’s mind, maybe cause a few more people to cancel their subscriptions.

So I believe between the Compost and the NY Slimes they have endorsed one, and only one R since they started the practice, and that was Ike.

Jeff Bezos might have saved the industry with this one move.

Historians need to go back in time and research how ‘reporters and journalists’ kicked Publishers out of newsrooms. That’s where the horrors and narcissism stated.

Why? Because monkeys should never have been running the zoo... They’re interest is in getting more bananas for themselves - more column inches and notice. And not in making the zoo accessible and interesting to the public. (the public are the folks who keep the zoo doors open and the public has decided they don’t trust the monkeys and don’t like the zoo - thanks YOU Jeff Bezos)

Good for Jeff ... it’s about damn time.
