Democratic congresswoman Rashida Tlaib recently sent a letter to Kroger over the grocery giant’s purported plan to introduce digital price tags that could be changed in an instant to raise or lower prices for shoppers based on the time of day, the weather, or any other number of factors. But one particular detail in Kroger’s plan is raising the most eyebrows: The company intends to put cameras in stores that would be used for facial recognition.
News leaked over the summer that grocery giant Kroger was partnering with Microsoft to use electronic shelf labels, shortened in the grocery industry as ESLs, as part of an AI push to institute dynamic pricing at its grocery stores. The plan also includes so-called Enhanced Display for Grocery Environment (EDGE) shelf displays that would reportedly include cameras to capture customer information, including images of faces to better tailor ads.
But Rep. Tlaib, whose home state of Michigan has 120 Kroger locations, expressed concern about these technologies in her letter dated Oct. 11 and shared Tuesday for the first time publicly.
“Studies have shown that facial recognition technology is flawed and can lead to discrimination in predominantly Black and brown communities,” Tlaib said in her letter. “The racial biases of facial recognition technology are well-documented and should not be extended into our grocery stores.”

I know. Not funny.
Kroger is an evil company who wants to scan my drivers license in order to buy adult beverages.
the only thing they need to know is that I am over 21. they do not need any other information from me.
If Kroger starts others will follow.
What happens if the price goes up after I take it off the shelf but before I reach checkout?
As someone who looks at everything from every angle to save a penny, from banking, internet, to shopping, I have long dreaded the advancement of corporations to figure out how to separate the customers individually by profitability and on the micro-level.
I knew they could do it on the large scales, for instance a bank knows who has big accounts versus the guy with free checking and small amounts, but it is going to get bad as more and more they just discard the low profit customers and stores start figuring out how much you want something (and when) and can set the price based on your psychological and user profile.
How long has Costco had the swipe your card as you enter thing ?
I have said for years we are heading for a Minority Report style experience where you get eye scanned everywhere you go... so much for what is left of freedom to move about freely. Already have more cameras that you can count, non-cash transactions, license plate readers, and cell tower meta data tracking us.
Walmart has used facial recognition for years. They have huge database. That’s why their membership program doesn’t make much sense-they already track who buys what. They started to track shoplifters (see stories from about 9 or 10 years ago) but it’s broader than that now.
Price gouging at Kroger - no thanks but it’s rare that I darken their doors anyway - usually for a King cake at Lent, or a special on meat.
I no longer shop at the closest Kroger to me. Over the last couple of years, they have progressively gotten worse in the customer service department. I’m so tired of it.
This will be the final straw for me.
Problem is, I know eventually other stores will follow suit.
Repeat of above video with a little more comment
This is ALREADY HAPPENING (December, 2023) - I say it will come to much of the world - BEFORE the Mark of the Beast - COVID-19(84)-style tyranny will make it difficult to even buy food
This woman had a gift card - it would not even let her use her GIFT CARD without FACIAL RECOGNITION
The Mark of the Beast WILL happen.
Very few understand what is coming to this planet.
Probably including this poor woman - who has already experienced the tyranny (in China)
This is December, 2023 - This (and far, far worse) will come to the whole world
China...No Digital ID...Can’t buy food!
TPTB WILL use control over food to control people. Social Credit scores - China-style. It is ALREADY happening in China. This video is from December, 2023:
It won’t matter if someone has $400,000-$500,000 in the bank. It won’t matter if somebody has a job paying $150,000 a year. You WILL submit to the Social Credit Score System and you WILL exhibit and parrot Party Doctrine or you WILL be cast aside and forced to buy food on the streets. Oh, and your finances WILL be tracked with Digital Currency, etc. (for the thread)
China...No Digital ID...Can’t buy food!

[If Kroger starts others will follow.]
It’s probably already planned in others, but yeah...
For us, about three weeks.
Kroger sucks. They have a monopoly in our city.
Albertson’s or Beer Lion, can’t remember which, had land scoped out for a new store. Kroger came in and bought up the land.
Now this. No thanks, especially given the decline in quality and high prices.
“Rashida Tlaib recently sent a letter”
I know exactly where a letter from that evil woman would go.
Not yours, commie.
Line Manager: "I couldn't figure out why they did not want to join the [UFCW] at the end of probationary, until I got to the third refuser, and the first refuser was in jail [on different charges]. They were running the play. The first one had passed through nearly 40-grand in 3 months...and he had the temerity to file for unemployment."
Social score pricing.. by a different name.
