Chinese Scientists Report Using Quantum Computer to Hack Military-grade Encryption

Insider Brief

Chinese researchers, using a D-Wave quantum computer, claim to have executed what they are calling the first successful quantum attack on widely used encryption algorithms, posing a “real and substantial threat” to sectors like banking and the military, as reported by SCMP. The D-Wave Advantage, initially designed for non-cryptographic applications, was used to breach SPN-structured algorithms but has not yet cracked specific passcodes, highlighting the early-stage nature of this threat. Despite the advance, the researchers acknowledge limitations such as environmental interference, underdeveloped hardware and the inability to develop a single attack method for multiple encryption systems still hinder quantum computing’s full cryptographic potential.

Thanks, free traitors. Sending your manufacturing, technology, and money to China has really paid off.

Signed, the Chinese Communists

No connection to the outside digital world is the only true security. Which includes Bluetooth, Low Energy Bluetooth, Chirp, WiFi, Near Field Communications, Radio frequency modulation/transmission and RFID.

Don’t even have the hardware as part of any machine that contains data wanted to be secure. Everything is done with secure, physical USB via courier. Slow? Of course but 100% absolute security except for human treachery.

double encrypting with different keys would remove the advantage of brute-forcing with a quantum computer.

using aes block encryption would not significantly increase the encryption or decryption step

it’d still take millions of years to crack two 14 digit keys

You are so correct. The absolute safest way to transmit secure data is with a trusted courier, the old fashioned way.

Anything digital wired or wireless can and will be intercepted. PERIOD.

And that USB data stick best be prepared and read only on a 100% off-grid computer. A lap top with the charger unplugged and wireless capability permanently disabled works.

For the life of me, I could never, ever figure that out. The ChiComs, sworn enemies of the US. And we willingly gave them all of that. And keep on doing so.

It was done so the rich could get richer and the elite more elite, which includes politicians. This same bunch has raised a herd of little trust fund pukes that just hate America.

The Chinese cannot manufacture entry level computer chips for PCs, it took them until 2014 to make a ballpoint pen. Call me skeptical of this claim.

Like Climate change, there's a "suggests... may soon threaten" in this statement. In other words, the encryption they supposedly targeted was only components of the AES standard used today.

Chinese scientists have successfully mounted what they claim is the world’s first effective attack using a quantum computer on widely used encryption methods, according to a report from the South China Morning Post (SCMP). The researchers did acknowledge that limitations would hamper — at least for now — a full-on quantum hack.

According to SCMP, the research team employed the D-Wave Advantage quantum computer to target the Present, Gift-64, and Rectangle algorithms, called key representatives of the Substitution-Permutation Network (SPN) structure. This structure is foundational for advanced encryption standards (AES), a system widely deployed in military and financial encryption protocols, according to the newspaper. While AES-256 is often labeled as military-grade and considered the most secure encryption standard available, the study suggests that quantum computers may soon threaten such security.

This is why Microsoft and some other big companies are forcing 2 factor authentication on customers whether they like it or not ASAP.

Giving the Chinese government 51% of your Chinese company and all of your affiliated patents is, and always was, insane.

“No connection to the outside digital world is the only true security. “

It gets really boring sitting in the control room of a power plant. You need to be able to access the porn sites.
