Republican Raises Concerns About Voting Access in Areas Hit By Hurricanes

As Florida and North Carolina recover from Hurricane Helene and Milton, concerns about how voters will access the polls heighten.

Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-N.C.) is urging voters to begin making plans for how they will vote, with the election being only three weeks away, millions of people still without power, and many with no reliable source of transportation. In Florida, Hurricane Helene tore through the state, resulting in billions of dollars of destruction and more than 230 people dead.

“There will likely be some people out there that, for one reason or another, will not be able to exercise their most important constitutional right,” Edwards said. “I'll also follow up with folks in the area and make offers to help get transportation for those folks that feel like they might not have a normal life or a transportation style to make it to the polls.”

Edwards said more than 9,000 acres of western North Carolina were affected by the hurricane among 28 counties— 6,000 of that is in his district.

The congressman acknowledged that people are not thinking about the election at the moment as they are trying to get their “Power back on, trying to get in touch with their loved ones, trying to dig out from the debris,” but encouraged them to start thinking about how they will vote and request an absentee ballot if they believe they won’t make it to the polls on Election Day.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) granted counties hit the hardest by Hurricane Helene some flexibility in distributing mail-in ballots and changing polling sites for in-person voting.

Concerns have grown that people won’t be able to receive their mail-in ballots because many have had to flee their homes or be damaged by the high winds and waters.

In addition, dozens of polling sites in at least 13 counties in Florida have been damaged.

Regarding the Biden-Harris Administration’s response to the deadly storms, Edwards gives the government a “C-minus.”

“This storm was over about 10 a.m. on Friday, and it was into Tuesday before we saw the first boots on the ground from FEMA before we saw the first helicopters with food and water," he said.

This time instead of looking for hanging chads, the vote counters will disallow GOP ballots with mud or silt on any part of them.

Remember New Black Panthers with arms folded, standing in front of polling places as elderly white people turned back in fright? Worked well.

Result of the most celebrated case:
2008.
“Two weeks before George W. Bush left office, the New Black Panther Party and two of its members, Minister King Samir Shabazz and Jerry Jackson, were sued by the Department of Justice on claims of voter intimidation for their conduct outside a polling station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Obama Department of Justice later narrowed the charges against Minister King Shabazz and dismissed the charges against Jackson, the New Black Panther Party and its leader. The dismissals led to accusations that the Obama administration’s Department of Justice was biased against white victims and unwilling to prosecute minorities for civil rights violations. These charges were most notably made by J. Christian Adams, who in May 2010 resigned his post in the Department of Justice in protest over the Obama administration’s alleged mishandling of the case, and by his former supervisor Christopher Coates.”

Voter Intimidation New Black Panther Style

Excerpts:

After the opening statements and the reading of evidence into the record, the hearing continued with three videos: the atwo camera-phone videos shot at the polling place (now on YouTube), and clips from a National Geographic documentary about the NBPP that includes interviews with Chairman Shabazz and with the billy-club-wielding King Samir Shabazz.

Mr. Billy Club talks about how much he hates and wants to kill white people, including white babies, and the documentary includes a very ugly scene (among many) in which he confronts an interracial couple in a Philadelphia neighborhood.

Bartle Bull — a well-known Democratic lawyer (and former publisher of The Village Voice), who worked in the South during the height of the civil-rights campaign — saw the same thing happen. He had also gotten a call about the intimidation and drove to the polling place. One of the Panthers pointed his billy club at Bull and said, “Now you are going to find out what it is to be ruled by the black man, cracker.” This to a man who started off as a volunteer for Adlai Stevenson, who headed Robert Kennedy’s campaign in New York in 1968, and who, in 1971, worked to get civil-rights stalwart Charles Evers elected governor of Mississippi.

Bull saw several voters walk up the long driveway to the polling place, stop, turn around, and leave when they saw the Panthers standing there in their black uniforms and combat boots with one of them slapping a billy club in his hand.

It was a pretty dramatic moment in the hearing room when Bull, Hill, and Mauro turned in their chairs, and Bull pointed to one of the Panthers sitting two seats down from me and identified him as the one who wielded the billy club that day and who also said on the National Geograpic documentary that he wanted to kill white people.

...talks about how much he hates and wants to kill white people, including white babies...

Yipes. Free speech I guess. Part of that "democracy" the Dems are pushing.

Early Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter: "The most difficult freedom for us to affirm is freedom for the thought we hate."

May 12, 2021, Summit News article by Paul Joseph Watson:

An Antifa protester at a demonstration near Seattle was filmed proudly proclaiming, “I can’t wait until black people lynch white people.”

Yes, really.

The chant was heard during a far-left black bloc protest against a Billy Graham association event.

At first a woman is heard stating, “I can’t wait until black people hang you, I can’t wait.”

When she is asked to repeat the statement, she proudly clarifies, “I can’t wait until black people lynch white people.”

Many years ago at a crucial moment, I called Billy Graham and spoke with some rep. for over an hour.

I don’t think they take calls that last for more than a few minutes, now.

But I was impressed, and helped a lot, back then. Bless him.

Some time later, I took a very big risk, and God showed up.
