'I worry that we are expecting too much,' says transit union president of delays
OC Transpo staff are researching where to buy more diesel buses — something the city had never intended to do again — as it gives up on plans for high-capacity electric buses and struggles to maintain its aging conventional fleet.
The capital's public transit agency gave an update Thursday for its e-bus procurement.
It includes information about the latest round of delays and the city's decision to give up on purchasing any of the longer, 18-metre (60-foot) electric buses.
"If we lose that, does this mean now we have to get more operators that we can't even get to be able to drive 40-foot buses on those schedules that will be overloaded," said Coun. Tim Tierney, who has been pressing OC Transpo on its e-bus plans for months.
"It's time to meet reality, figure out how we're going to fund more diesel buses and get them in here as soon as possible. Otherwise the whole system will collapse."

This guy gets it………the system will collapse. This is what the globalists want. Coward Piven
Indeed if all fails go back to first idea.
Los Angeles had them down town now it’s the last place you want to drive.
DIESEL PING!..................
Not a surprise, but the babe who led Ottawa down this obvious path to doom is a DEI.
Vegas went to CNG buses probably 20-22 years ago, but there aren’t that many on the roads. Mostly diesel. I can’t see them ever going to e-buses, but last I heard, the bus company is owned by some French company. Still, when they first geared up in 1992, they had to use the old buses that were already using bailing wire and duct tape to keep on the road, until the new buses came — from Canada — which never has had 118° temps.
They shoulda got ‘em from Saudi Arabia, or some such place that was familiar with heat. What they dealt with in the meantime was breakdowns in the A/C systems on every single new bus they purchased. But they didn’t consult me before they made the purchase, or I woulda told ‘em!

Ottawa had a functioning all-bus, above ground transit system that worked. But it wasn’t Green so we went with a light rail system that travels underneath downtown. Hopelessly unreliable, over cost and has major issues in extreme cold. Go figure. When those issues occur, they activate “R 1” bus service to compensate for the non-functioning portion of the LRT. (Union bosses: ca-Ching!) East, south, and west extensions are almost set to start service but our largest employer, the federal government, currently mandates public servants work only 3 days in the office. And the whining is deafening. That decreased ridership, coupled with the farcical record of mishaps will present budget woes for years to come.
I remember those! SoCal was a great place to grow up back when they were around. And I get your point, but now doubt they want those new, cutting-edge battery powered busses.
It’s just me, but I’ve been told it sometimes get cold in Canada and EVs don’t play well with cold.
Centralized commie plans fail. Time and again.
Montgomery County, MD school system replaced their diesel buses with electric ones. On the surface, it looked like a good idea - short, repetitive routes in a flat suburban area, less maintenance, less money per run.
They just bought 91 new diesel buses because the EVs were too unreliable, took too long to recharge, and there were late deliveries.
They jumped on the bandwagon without checking to see if it had any wheels.
