There are video clips online. It looks like the ship struck the reef hard enough to put it up on the keel and list close to 45 degrees. It appears that the currents took the sinking ship off the reef afterwards.

It's a three-fer: Ran aground, caught fire, and sank.
Throughout history, there are incidents where captains ran their burning ship aground with the hopes of saving more crew. The crew could bail out in shallower waters closer to shore, increasing their chances of surviving cold water and dangerous currents. (Not the case here).
“America has become a country of real-life sitcoms.”

How true. So much absurdity surrounding us that any occurrences of normality become noteworthy. Common sense is very uncommon in these strange times.
I agree. Reading the news is like reading MAD magazine. Now that we’ve allowed the Muzzies to drag us into their moronic wars, it’s even worse.
The MSM ignores the captain was female in the initial article.
When they have to mention a female captain, they have to insert she made the right decision and saved lives. I wonder if running the ship aground was the right decision as well.
No better than Pravda.
I am baffled as to how a ship designed for mapping the sea floor and presumably packed with instruments do do so could unexpectedly hit a reef so hard as to sink.

Dyke fight on the bridge with the captain. Girls jockeying for position under the captain.
Looks like the crew was hitting the coral reefer.

Either that or there was a dispute over who won the carpet munching contest.
“The big swells and high winds reportedly added more complexity to the situation, with boats constantly being pushed towards the reefs.“
A captain is expected to take conditions into consideration when conning the ship. Which includes scrubbing the mission if conditions are to iffy .
I KNEW when I read the headline they’d provide an excuse for the girl “captain “.
A lot of pics and comments.

I first was confused you were speaking of nudists (naturists...).
runs aground then sinks?? sigh...
They loaned them a few of their DEI Officers.
Oh, I can see running aground @ low tide and then getting pulled off by current @ high tide, and if you’ve gashed a nice hole in the hull initially, then you sink. It’s happened many a time. But, how did the fire get started?
How can a boat run aground and sink, too?
oh boy...
She doesn’t just look it, she lives it. See Post 28.
