Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is getting skewered on social media for releasing a message asking drone pilots to no longer fly their drones “near or around rescue and recovery efforts” for Hurricane Helene victims.
” Drone pilots: Do not fly your drone near or around rescue and recovery efforts for Hurricane Helene,” the U.S. Department of Transportation said in an X post.
“Interfering with emergency response operations impacts search and rescue operations on the ground,” it continued, sharing a video of Buttigieg repeating this sentiment.

I heartily disagree.
Planes and Helicopters are going to be flying at least several hundred feet above trees. Drones (quadcopter type) are going to be flying just above treetops and even lower.
SO the chance of interference is very low.
If you are laying on the ground starving and bleeding to death, would you rather they took the risk ?
However, I would agree with you both on restricting the higher flying drones which are only there to get video of the carnage so they can put it on Youtube or Rumble.
He thinks a man can breast feed, what more do you expect from that fool creature?
I actually think he wants to prevent pictures and video from getting out showing how bad the situation is and how little the Andmistration is doing to help these poor folks.
It is inevitable that something will crash or someone will die during rescue attempts, especially huge ones like this. Matter of fact, it's already happened and that was with 'approved' rescue personnel.
The only way to avoid such mishaps is to never make any rescue attempts at all.
In his defense, he’s a new mother so it’s easy for him to get a little scatterbrained and confused.

Then, that means drone pilots should fly their drones in places where there are no rescue or recovery efforts going on.
Which is what many have been doing. Because the area and amount of devastation is to huge of a task for even the ‘government/LEO/Rescue’ personnel to process with the speed needed.

They don’t want the drones flying in the area because they don’t want the news getting out that they are DOING NOTHING TO HELP!!!!
Even a broken clock is right twice a day. And given how annoying drones proved to be the last time we mountain fires here I can totally see them wanting to keep drones away. Even with the best of intentions random things flying around aren’t good.
Except they won’t necessarily. Rescue copters like to get low, less winch time. And drones can get high. The right altitude for both is in the same area.
And of course how do you tell the difference between lookie-loo drones and trying to help drones? If people want to help go to the rescue centers, they always need people, blankets, and food.
But it will happen more when random idiots that aren’t on the radio communicating with rescuers are flying random junk around. Just because something is inevitable doesn’t mean you can’t have LESS.
Yup, the new low benchmark of suck.
