County Executive Adam Bello (Monroe County NY) Announces Launch Of Eviction Diversion Resource Center At Hall Of Justice

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello today joined Seventh Judicial District Administrative Judge Bill Taylor and Seventh Judicial District Supervising Judge for City Courts Melissa Barrett to announce the launch of the Eviction Diversion Resource Center (EDRC) at the Rochester Hall of Justice in connection to Rochester Housing Court. This innovative initiative will provide residents facing evictions with direct access to essential financial assistance programs and resources every Monday and Friday.

Located on the Mezzanine Floor of the Hall of Justice, the Eviction Diversion Resource Center serves as a support hub, where Monroe County Department of Human Services (DHS) staff will be available to assist tenants with rental assistance applications and eligibility screenings for SNAP, childcare support and other benefits. This is the first center of its kind in a New York State courthouse outside of the New York City area.

“The nationwide affordable housing crisis has led to an uptick in eviction cases across our community. As more eviction cases are entering the court systems, it is clear that underlying issues like food insecurity, transportation and affordable childcare can make it harder for families to afford rent. The Eviction Diversion Resource Center addresses this issue by connecting tenants directly with the supports and services they need,” said County Executive Bello. “Thanks to our DHS Commissioner Thalia Wright and Judges Barrett and Taylor for their partnership and commitment to supporting Monroe County Families and helping them maintain stability.”

Another way to delay the inevitable and reduce private property rights. Landlords are forced to keep renting to bad tenants who don't pay their rent, cause lots of damage and drama.

Then investment companies swoop on and buy the property.

Yep, that is what all of this is about. The elimination of private holdings. You only believe you own this property sucker. You own only what we determine you can hold. Since you do not play ball with us, oops, you lose.

Why is this necessary under the best economy ever?

Investment companies can’t be bullied by deadbeat tenets... so in the long run tenets lose. They would be better off with more flexible small business landlords.

This is typical liberal insanity - they create short term ‘solutions’ that in the long run will hurt the people they’re trying to help.

Unintended consequences - make rental property less attractive for big and small investors and they will find new places to invest and get out of the rental business - effect less rental units available. More homeless.

There are few problems the government can solve that the free market (if left alone) could not solve better.

LET’S SEE IF I UNDERSTAND:

RENTERS are behind or refusing to pay rent on spaces they DO NOT OWN.

Eviction is the ONLY solution the landlord has.

Such evictions are often attached to damages ranging from SOME to MASSIVE-—which are damages that the landlord must now repair in order to re-rent the space.

So-——TAX PAYER $$$$$$$$$$ is going to be used to HELP THE PERSON WHO GOT THEMSELVES INTO THIS SITUATION.?????

I PAY MY RENT-—I PAY MY MORTGAGE-—I PAY MY PROPERTY TAXES-—ANS NOW I GET TO PAY FOR SOMEONE ELSE’S RENT WHEN THEY DID NOT PAY?

SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW I SUDDENLY HAVE ANOTHER DEPENDENT I CANNOT CLAIM ON MY 1040————

There is a special kind of stupid attached to being a POLITICIAN.

Isn’t it unethical for these judges to be involved in this? Sounds like more corruption.
