The cell grid is actually very fragile. Ingenious and hi-tech, but fragile. Would/will be very easy to interfere with or break by several means. FCC would be involved for a number of potential reasons, including signal interference by unauthorized transmitters. I am not sure what role they would play in the event it was system hackers, but certainly that would be criminal.

I still have a land-line and will continue to do so. ...I have an old push button phone if the remote goes down too. Has saved the day more than once!
