Ran a bookkeeping business for over 44 years with only a land line & an answering machine.
I found this dial phone I have at a roadside rummage sale . My kids all think I need to invest in hooking up the three cell phones they got for me. But it's just another expense to get those plans. Besides they all require long distance. Plus I don't want to be available 24/7... I already get enough of their ‘butt calls’! My son got me one of those street finders for my car too. I used it once while traveling and had to stop anyway just to find out how to use it! Maps are fine for how much I travel.
I still have a land-line and will continue to do so.
He went to a local store and they didn’t know anything. What a surprise.
This exact same issue happened in the Hudson Valley (NY) back at the end of July — from West Point to just south of Albany. There was a fire in the Poughkeepsie Data Center that knocked everything out.
Out here in the mountains of Colorado. Wife works from home and I’m about to call up that dopey Kamela to borrow some of her Xanex or something, cuz she is having a fit! Ugh!!!

I just got mine back 5 minutes ago, been down all day, I’m in SE Nebraska.
Seems like Verizon had most of the cell phone infrastructure in Helene’s path...I suspect a correlation.

I had this happen today. Landed in Santa Ana airport, Orange Co., CA. My iPhone just said ‘SOS’. I had to go into ‘airplane mode’ and back out before it’d correctly connect to the cell service.
Phones go on SOS often during flights. They’re constantly pinging trying to find a cell tower...even while up in the air.
THANKS!! I just went to airplane mode and out of it again and I now have service!
Rumor (Laura Loomer, FWIW) sez it is a hack or cyber attack
I started life with no electricity or phone.
Then a 12 party land line at 7 years old.
Now cell phone, tablet, laptop, Ham radio general license, Icom 7100, Icom 718, 2 Icom automatic antenna tuners, various antennas and masts.
For those who want communications that work, put forth a little effort, and get your general ham license.
