The IDF spokesperson reports that in each volley launched tonight, approximately five rockets were fired. This suggests the involvement of around one launcher per volley.
Hezbollah is adopting a strategy of attrition. For example, during Ibrahim Aqil’s funeral two days ago, Naim Qassem stated that the objective is to economically suffocate Israel, emphasizing that Hezbollah is indeed focusing on an approach of exhaustion. This shift to an attrition strategy represents, to some extent, a departure from the “win by points” approach in favor of a “win by not losing” approach.
Despite this, it is likely that Hezbollah has not yet abandoned efforts to carry out kidnappings within Israeli territory to achieve some tactical or operational goal. Alternatively, it may claim that any damage inflicted on Israeli territory constitutes points “earned” in the conflict.
Obama Admin CIA director and Sec of Defense Leon Panetta accuses Israel of “terrorism” over Hezbollah pager attack.
Israel’s (alleged) attack was entirely within int’l law. Not sure same can be said about some of the things done under his watch at CIA and DoD.
Which is why it'd be a good idea for Israel to take some Lebanese territory. That way they'd actually lose something.
The exhaustion by attrition strategy works very well against Western conventional armies when used by guerilla forces. Think Vietnam and Afghanistan.
The only way to fight it is to fight an all-out conventional and counterinsurgency war. The Israelis are making a good start of it - finally. Gaza should have been carpet bombed into a dead wasteland and its population expelled months ago. Militarily speaking that is the route to victory. Politically it could not be done.
