On Tuesday, the California Board of Parole Hearings upheld the decision to grant parole to a man convicted of killing a 2-year-old girl back in 2011.
An "en banc" review affirmed the decision in April to grant parole to David Leonardo after less than 13 years in custody, per the Monterey County District Attorney's Office.
Leonardo was serving 15 years to life sentence for the murder of his then girlfriend's daughter Pricilla Rose Hernandez.
He confessed to hitting her in the abdomen out of anger which resulted in her death via internal bleeding, said the district attorney's office.
"Priscilla had been throwing a tantrum about her mother leaving. The Inmate had given her a time out. She had pooped and peed her pants to get back at him. He hit her in the tummy. She didn’t speak after that," said the district attorney's office.
This was Leonardo's second parole hearing after Governor Newsom overturned his first grant of parole back in 2023.
At the April parole hearing the victim's grandmothers were present and asked Leonardo not to be released. There were many letters as well as a multi-page petition with signatures of members of the public who did not approve of his parole.
The Board stated Leonardo had sufficiently mitigated his risk for family violence, deepened his insight into his triggers and developed coping skills to maintain healthy relationships.
Leonardo is expected to be released once able to.
The district attorney's office stated there was nothing more they could do to try and overturn the parole.
Oh yeah, we need to protect killers from these powerful, violent 2 year olds! I hope the idiots that let this vermin walk have to answer one day for their stupidity!

He gets 15 to life, and serves 13. He can get on with his life while a two-year-old lies in her grave.
Let’s see... he put a 2 year-old in time out and the kid pooped and peed her pants to “get back at him”? I suspect she was actually terrified of him and was afraid to ask to go potty.
This wouldn’t be a problem if he had been executed.

Not a chance in hell that sob would get out one minute before he was DEAD if I was Governor. Not even 30 seconds (i.e. about 2 deep breaths of liberty before his lights went out forever.

I remember when this murder happened. Horrific. Inexcuseable.
This is a textbook case for why the death penalty is needed.
It is hard to comprehend how society has developed more compassion for violent criminals than it has for the victims.
They want to make this about whether he’s reformed! Who cares? He can’t take back the murder.
The point of the death penalty is to deter others who might otherwise lack impulse control. The certain threat of death is a good deterrent when it is in place.
There are many on death row in CA, but it’s been about 17 years since an execution.
She’s not out. Eligible for parole in November.
Maybe the outrage will keep her in there. She should spend the rest of her life in solitary.......and thanks for the heads up.
