HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Prosecutors have rested their case against disgraced former Houston Police Officer Gerald Goines after nine days of trial.
Texas Ranger Jeff Wolf finished three days of testimony on the stand. During his final hour, Wolf was asked to read out loud to the jury some of Dennis Tuttle's extensive medical history.
Tuttle, who was in the Navy as a young man, had a lengthy medical history with the local VA hospital. According to records read in court, he suffered constant pain following an industrial work accident.
The pain was often debilitating, to the point where Tuttle told VA nurses on the record that he wanted to end his life. But, Tuttle also told nurses he was not suicidal and did not want to take opioid pain killers for fear of addiction.

Difficult to get a police “win” out of this. The defense should be interesting, if not detailed...
I completely agree! That is an excellent movie to catch.
I own it in BluRay. It looks like it was filmed just this year.
I still remember when Joe Torres was so badly beaten by Houston cops that the booking sergeant insisted instead that they take him to the hospital, he never made it, the cops instead threw him into the bayou.
“The Hole” is where the cops used to park their cars and sleep while on duty.
“He had apparently been drinking, and police officers arrived, arresting him for disorderly conduct. The six officers who responded took Torres to “The Hole”, a spot behind a warehouse overlooking Houston’s Buffalo Bayou, and beat him there. The officers then took Torres to the city jail, who refused to process him due to his injuries. A supervisor ordered to take him to Ben Taub Hospital, but instead of doing so, the officers took him back to “The Hole”, and pushed him off a wharf into the water. Torres’s body was found three days later.”
This is the statement of the lead defense attorny in a TV news interview.
My answer to his question is absolutely YES.
This sworn officer of the law falsified a sworn affidavit that lead to a No-Knock raid (home invasion) by police officers that lead to a shoot out that lead to the death of two innocent civilians.
Too things were precipitating actions/inactions of the officer.
First was his falure to do the due diligence investigation of the report made by the neighbor.
The second was the false affidavit.
Had the officer performed and even preliminary investigation the false affidavit would not have been produced.
Had the false affidavit not been filed the raid would not have happened.
Had the raid not have happened the victims would be alive.
The officer is at the root of the series of events that lead to the death of two people.
He is the root cause, he is directly responsible.
He was committing a felony ... in the process of committing that felony, two people were killed. Looks like felony murder, to me.
