That is the million dollar question. Many Freepers have been thinking that the Hezbollah pagers' lithium batteries were somehow overloaded leading to an explosion of the pagers. If lithium batteries in connected devices can be turned into bombs look for a political, technological firestorm as nearly every adult in the world carries in their pocket a remote controlled bomb.
Makes you wonder if Israel had a mole inside with whoever supplied the pagers? Either than or there is some serious mojo going on with Israeli technology to be able to light off simple pagers...

Apparently spyware that cycled the lithium ion battery in a manner to make it overheat and explode.
An iPhone battery has the stored energy of a grenade, for comparison.
These looked about like really hot M80s going off.
Lots of hands, faces, hips, and balls blown off.

They were new, they just started using them recently because phones are too dangerous. The pagers were somehow set to overheat (probably at point of manufacture) so the batteries would explode. Some people felt the overheating and were able to get away from them before they blew. 2750 blew, 8 dead, many other critical according to Hezzies.
Oh, those sneaky Israelis. They went off at 3:30PM. I don’t know if that time has any significance to Israel.
Enquiring minds would like to know. Did they over heat them remotely some how? How did they get the list of numbers??
