President Biden said the United States Secret Service needs further assistance after former President Trump was the target of a second assassination attempt while golfing in Florida on Sunday.
“One thing I want to make clear is: the Service needs more help. And I think Congress should respond to their need,” Biden told reporters on Monday. When questioned on what the Secret Service could need, the president responded, “they may decide whether they need more personnel or not.”
Trump was playing golf in West Palm Beach when Secret Service agents noticed a man with a AK-47-style rifle on the perimeter of the course. An agent fired at the man, who then fled in a car and was later apprehended traveling from Palm Beach County into Martin County on I-95.
Biden on Monday also expressed his gratitude for his former political rival’s safety.
“Thank God the president is OK,” Biden told reporter

I think Trump needs to do this to add a layer of perimeter security he is not getting now. The SS did better in this situation, but there needed to be perimeter security. As one former agent said last night, had Biden been at the course, they would have basically surrounded the perimeter of the course. Trump needs his own private security team. The SS knows how to work with them just like they work with local PD. If elected, I would still keep some private security around. To keep tabs on the FBI, CIA, and SS, if nothing else.

Given that there was already one attempt on Trump’s life, you would think the Secret Service would be not only better prepared, but better armed. I remember when Reagan spoke at an event across the street from my office I was watched by a Secret Service agent carrying a small bag under his arm. I was later told by a friend in the police department that it likely contained an Uzi. Clearly agents with handguns would have be no match for a scoped AK-47 had there been a firefight. Trump needs his own security unit made up of former SEALs, Delta Force and other special forces and have them well armed. However, I’m sure the media would blast this as evidence of Trump being a dictator surrounded by a praetorian guard.
