PM defends 'tough decision' over winter fuel cut
BBC ^ | Sep 8 | Laura Kuenssberg

Posted on 09/08/2024 10:05:15 AM PDT by RandFan

The prime minister has told the BBC his new government is "going to have to be unpopular" as he defended his "tough" decision to cut winter fuel payments.

Speaking on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg in his first major interview in Downing Street, Sir Keir Starmer said he was determined to deliver change but this meant having to "do the difficult things now".

Challenged on his plan to remove winter fuel payments from most pensioners while also awarding above inflation pay rises to some public sector workers, he said he was "fixing the foundations" and those in need would still get assistance.

He said: "When we talk about tough decisions, I’m talking about... the things the last government ran away from."

Yet there’s plenty of money to spend on putting more and more “migrants” up at taxpayer expense in British hotels, paying for their food, the medical bills, etc etc etc

Nonsense! If Cratchit can’t get by with a single lump of coal then he can just put on an overcoat. Are there no workhouses?

Socialism on the march in the United Kingdom. Fuel assistance payments scrapped while gov’t workers get a big pay raise.

Also, bad teeth, rampant pederasty, and widespread closet homosexuality has destroyed the English spine.

Oh this is going to be popular.

On top of jailing widows and children for factually accurate but embarrassing to the gov. online posts.

On top of grooming gangs set free to walk the streets with a huge settlement in their pocket after raping hundreds of british girls

On top of daily attacks by crazed muslims

On top of double digit unemployment and “you’ll never afford a first home” prices while the illegals [who are doing the raping] get 5 bedroom flats for free

The brits are transferring their prison population to Norway to make room for the “far right” protestors they intend to arrest, but have committed no crime.

So now freeze the elderly. No criticism permitted. You will be imprisoned.

It sucks especially for those pensioners who are just missing out on income bands. They’re being particularly clobbered by this and can ill afford to lose that $ (£). I feel for them.

Labour won with around a third of the vote.

Not exactly a mandate for their Deep State, is it...

"There will be a big rebellion..."
Actual or political?

Needs to be both. Someone ask Starmer if fuel for him and his family will be cut.

In parliament (Tuesday)

Will be fascinating to see how many of his Members get cold feet on this

I think a lot will vote against it but the terrible thing is the majority is huge.

As an old man, I can talk tough from my keyboard but if I had to get out of the house and verbally or physically push back, would I?

We’ve already seen the UK gov’t and also here in America, the Regime imprison people for simply being in the wrong place.

No but under the stupid system that has translated into a near super majority for Labour making it hard for potential rebels and plotters to defeat Starmer.

This is an ideal/unpopular enough issue to hand him a defeat. I will be surprised but never say never

You can still influence your Reps.

I’m hoping the pensioners mobilize and quick to defeat this measure.

No math done but it’s unpopular

The Labour Party actually had more votes in 2019. But they won 211 more seats in this election.
