As the 2024 presidential election quickly approaches, the Arizona GOP's different factions have seemingly been coming together for November to turn the battleground purple state solid red.
Arizona has long had ties to conservative elected officials, such as former senators Barry Goldwater and John McCain. Former President Ronald Reagan had ties to the Phoenix area and there is also a large group of "MAGA Republicans" in the Grand Canyon state. The first female Justice of the United States Supreme Court, Sandra Day O’Connor, was appointed in 1969 to the Arizona State Senate to fill a vacated seat. She was reelected as a conservative to that position twice, even serving as the first female majority leader in any state senate.
Historically, different factions of the Arizona GOP have been divided. As far back as 1964, Barry Goldwater introduced a new hawkishness into GOP politics. “Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice, and moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue,” Goldwater said at the 1964 convention. Although LBJ trounced Goldwater in the general election, historians note that "the embers of Goldwater’s political philosophy—championing small government and individual freedoms—would ignite the party's conservative wing for decades to come."
According to Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., they are coming together for the November 2024 election. "I am seeing that closing of ranks coming together," Biggs said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "You have a few outliers, but those guys have always been the outliers."

Let’s hope so. This could be it for Keri Lake.
I’ll believe it if Kari Lake wins.
Whistling past the graveyard. McCain, early in his career was caught in a criminal play in Arizona; nonetheless, he escaped prosecution and then managed to take over the leadership of the corrupt Phoenix Republican party, and it has never recovered.
mccain was no conservative
Ill believe it when I see it.
Same in GA. I still don’t trust Kemp and the other two guys.
I know its not coming together in Georgia.
There shouldn’t be different ranks in the GOP, but there they will remain, because people will still vote for a POS Republican, just to keep the seat Republican.
“Same in GA. I still don’t trust Kemp and the other two guys.”
I don’t either. Kemp needs to clean up the voter rolls.
Doomers here will hate this:
Maricopa Co. now is up to a stunning 162,000 GOP NET lead over DemoKKKrats; every county in AZ save Pima is now Red, and Pima has LOST Ds in the last two registration posts.
It is entirely possible that the GOP will be close to 1 m total Rs in MC on election day.
By the way, in 30 states we have reg by party. Guess how many showed GOP gains since 2020.
30.
Oh, and the “steal?” In PA, early ballot requests (which was the source of the mules) DOWN for DemoKKKrats by 131,000 from 2020. In GA, early ballot requests both parties DOWN by 90%. So clearly the Ds not only know they can’t steal it, but have given up with the mule approach. No mules, no steal.
John McCain was a progressive republican. McCain hated conservatives as much as anybody could.
Thanks for the update LS!
They need to fix the maricopa GOP who controls the election though. As long as they are on team never trump it will be hard to win.
“then managed to take over the leadership of the corrupt Phoenix Republican party”
Odd. Then how was the AZ GOP able to censor McCain in 2014?
McCain ran as a Reagan Republican and was an excellent senator until Keating. In return for being left alone, he became a de facto Democrat and a betraying weasel.
By then everyone in Arizona was sick of McCain, his daughter, his wife, his dog, etc. The very last straw was his vote on Obama’s health care bill. Moving to the state, McCain built his own power structure in Arizona, and now only eight years later is it beginning to fall apart. Still, the House election in 2022 and the victory of the Republican nobody and half-arsed Ciscomani proves that they are still powerful. The Republican power structure has been open borders, cheap illegal laborers, fill your pockets and act dumb. It is a ruthless cabal.
Yesterday Maricopa Co. added over 200 more Rs. We are NET adding about 200 Rs per day, and at this rate will have a 172,000 GOP lead on election day (vs. 130,000 for the whole STATE in 2020)
Any thoughts as to why the Dems have given up in the mule approach as you believe they have?
It worked last time. Why not do it again?
