Fair point. Marshal Henri Petain is a famous example of that. Petain was a French hero in WW1. He threw it all away and collaborated with Hitler in WW2.
The Donald mentioned he looked up to his older brother Fred, a handsome man with a great personality, but had a substance abuse problem. Trump said his brother warned him to stay away from drugs and alcohol whenever they talked.
Trump tells people, "No drugs, no drinking, no smoking." Remarkable dialogue and worth watching.

Fred Jr died of consequences of alcoholism when Fred III was 18 and sister Mary was 16. He’d broken up with their mother 11 years before.
