Keir Starmer confirms he's looking at smoking ban in pub gardens and sports venues

Keir Starmer has confirmed he is looking at banning smoking from some outdoor spaces such as pub gardens.

Smoking could be banned from specified outdoor areas including outside nightclubs and restaurant terraces in a clampdown on tobacco use across the country. Ministers are said to be considering a number of policies as Mr Starmer accelerates plans to make Britain smoke-free.

The Prime Minister confirmed to journalists in Paris that he is looking at changes to smoking laws after leaked documents suggested smoking would be banned in outside sports stadiums, in children's parks, in pub gardens, outside nightclubs, on restaurant terraces, on pavements by universities and hospitals and in Shisha bars.

Asked about the reports, Mr Starmer said: "My starting point on this is to remind everybody that over 80,000 people lose their lives every year because of smoking. That is a preventable death, it's a huge burden on the NHS and, of course, it is a burden on the taxpayer.

"So, yes, we are going to take decisions in this space, more details will be revealed, but this is a preventable series of deaths and we've got to take action to reduce the burden on the NHS and the taxpayer."

The crackdown would be included in the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, which was set out in the King's Speech when Labour was elected to Government. The legislation will extend UK-wide, although the measures may be applied in different ways across the UK.

It’s a coin toss between censors and puritans of the left and the right at times. But if the two sides agree on an issue, heaven help everybody else.

Will he start extraditing people from America who smoke outdoors, also?

Starmer is a red-diaper baby. His parents were inveterate leftist and named him after Keir Hardie, a Scottish socialist/union leader/Labor politician of a hundred years ago.

Healthcare. In the public healthcare system, you are a cost. The greatest cost in healthcare is the last 6 months of somebody’s life. If they are dying of cancer during that time, it’s very expensive.

I speak generally. I’m not going to do great searches on the internet, do research that is fitting for 1000 page dissertations and fly around the world to talk to world’s great historians to write a simple sentence on a social media page.

If you missed an understanding of my point, because I drew from what is generally thought of as a moral era in England, because they didn’t support the same morality as a modern liberal, whatever.

If it makes you seem superiour, because you were inflexible in your thinking, whatever. I left a mispelling in the last sentence, so you have something to point out.

Now consider the fact that his party isn’t even trying to reign him in.

Are we literally watching a new Hitler emerging? He’s engaging in an all-out assault on free speech. You can’t criticize a *specific* religion - and some have been arrested for things that include “anti-establishment rhetoric”.

WTF is going on?? This is from the country that birthed the Magna Carta. I was born and raised there. It has always considered itself a bastion of ‘free speech’.

It’s all disappearing at an astonishing rate.

Britain is plagued with migrant invasions, grooming gangs, rape gangs, machete attacks, knife attacks, and a worsening economy — and Starmer wants to focus on public smoking.

You're wrong. It's not limited to a specific religion.

You're thinking or Islam. But Jews and Hindus are also protected classes in Britain.

It's only white Christians who aren't protected.

I'm with you on this. The majority of my DNA is from England, Wales, Denmark, Sweden, plus parts of northwestern Europe. Plenty invaders from Sweden and Denmark eventually settled in England, and intermarried with the locals. That could be where some of that DNA may come from. On another note, my father was born in Holland, and came here as a boy of 8 with his family in 1913. My mother was born in Canada, and it's from her family line that the English connection comes from. I had ancestors on her side that were Patriots and Loyalists.

I have always been interested in British history. The fact that my DNA showed a strong connection made me even more eager to learn as much of its history as I could while I'm still on this earth. I was fortunate that I was able to visit the British Isles in 2006, taking a 3-week bus tour, and returned the following year to visit some of the other places I hadn't been able to visit the year before. I'm just sorry that I didn't know about all the connections I had to England on those trips. On the bus tour in 2006 we visited Plymouth Harbor and viewed The Mayflower Steps. It is the site near where the Mayflower set off from. Unbeknownst to me at the time was the fact that I had a DNA-connected ancestor that came over on the Mayflower. He's my 9th great-grandfather and his name is George Soule. He was a servant for the Edward Winslow family, working as a tutor for the Winslow children, and he signed The Mayflower Compact.

Keith Starmer may be pushing his own restriction plans, but Parliament has a lot of blame for the censoring laws. I am appalled at what has been going on there over the years. The insanity boggles my mind. I watch Brit Katie Hopkins's YouTube Channel. She had her own experience with being cancelled, and being chased from the country, simply because she wrote a news article. She was permanently suspended from Twitter in 2020, but was allowed back on in 2023. She's since moved back to the UK, and does stand-up shows at various venues around the country that she calls her "Silly Cow Tour." She has a big following and sells out her venues wherever she goes. She also comes here to the U.S. to do her show. On YouTube she does regular updates on what is going on in the country. She calls them her updates from "Batshit, Bonkers Britain." And she's funnier than shit.

I didn’t miss the understanding of your point. The problem was that you named the values in the Victorian era, and tried to relate them to the smoking bans currently being pushed by Keir Starmer. One has nothing to do with the other. There were no smoking bans in Victorian England. I attempted to give you a bit of a history lesson about it, but for some reason you didn’t want to hear it.

In other words, I should have done the proper research, write 25,000 dissertations, fly around the world and talk to experts to get the exact wording of my points because of your inability to bridge points of thought.

I am aware they smoked like chimneys. They were also strict on fashionable moralities, where you could be drummed out of society if you did not keep their fashionable moralities. Liberals are big on fashionable moralities and want people canceled when they don’t keep them. That was the point I was making, Whether the Victorians smoked or not was secondary to my point of how liberals are like Victorians when it comes to enforcing fashionable moralities.

It just happens that liberals view smoking as immoral in their package of fashionable moralities.

"In other words, I should have done the proper research, write 25,000 dissertations"

No. All you had to do was read what I wrote, and how I provided you with a history lesson that smoking bans didn't exist in Victorian England, and dropped it at that. For some reason you've decided to have a temper tantrum over it, and run off on various tangents. Say goodnight Dick.

You’re too focused on smoking and not enough on the motivation. The actual thing they want to ban is irrelevant, because it’s about fashionable morality. It could be anything. The colour blue they may want to ban one day, because it became fashionable to ban the colour blue.

The ban is about controlling people, not the ban itself. They want to ban smoking for the common classes, so it becomes a thing of privilege again. They aren’t going to ban smoking for themselves, just us.

They are willing to pay $500 for a pack of smokes, knowing that they can smoke and we cannot. It’s not the smoking, but the control of people.

I mean Victorian values in terms of how they were enforced, not the values themselves. Fashionable values change with the times, the enforcement of them does not change.

Is he talking about the hundreds of thousands of military-age illegals swarming his country's shores?

No, didn't think so!

If you live in this country, were you concerned about the liberal politicians around the country when they banned smoking in restaurants, the work place, in every freaking building you entered? They told people where they could smoke and when? It even got so bad that they told people couldn't even smoke in their own residences, and they still can't. They've even taken kids away from their parent if they smoked, citing the dangers of second-hand smoke. We live in bizarro world. I've always said that RATS will let a woman kill her baby in her womb, but they won't let that same woman smoke herself to death.

England's smoking bans started around 2007. Starmer is just being a nanny, like Michael Bloomberg, who ordered restaurants to remove salt from the tables, and told businesses, they couldn't serve anyone regular soda in a container bigger than 16 ounces. RATS started out small with their smoking bans, ordering separate smoking areas in restaurants, then expanding it to the workplace, venues, etc. That's how the RATS take your freedoms away, bit by bit. They condition people to accept their changes a little at a time, and then go full-blown, and the morons, especially Congressional Republicans, and the people in this country fall for it every time. It's how RATS eventually take all your rights away. They did the same thing with gay marriage..."They only want to get married." And now, they've even done it with voting. Behavior modification a little at a time, while taking your rights away each and every step.

Frankly, I'm surprised that Britain still allowed smoking anywhere, like it's been banned everywhere here. They've been tight-assed on everything for a long time now.

Me? I never smoked in my life. I was the baby, and all three of my siblings and my parents smoked like chimneys. Both my parents, and my second-oldest sister died of lung cancer. I'm the last one left. Smoking was their choice. They were well aware of the dangers, so who was I to lecture to them?
