California government deal would spend $240 million on journalism

California government officials and Big Tech are nearing an agreement to jointly provide at least $242.5 million in funding for journalism, including local and ethnic outlets.

The agreement, first reported on by KCRA, would put an end to bills that would require tech companies to pay newsrooms a portion of their search and display revenue.

Under the California Journalism Preservation Act, which this agreement would stop from advancing, social media companies and search engines would be required to pay a share of their advertising revenue to news organizations based on how much organizations’ content shows up in social media feeds or search results. As protest, Google stopped showing local California news organizations in its search results to some California users.

Yes, it can get worse.

“This isn’t regulation. It’s ratification of Google’s monopoly over our newsrooms,” wrote Media Guild West President Matt Pearce in a bulletin to his members. “News executives don’t speak for journalists.”

No government should be doing this. At any level.

The St. Petersburg Telegraph Agency (SPTA), the first official news agency of Russia and the predecessor of ITAR-TASS, began to operate on September 1, 1904.

The creation of the agency was initiated by the Finance, Interior and Foreign Ministries. On July 4, 1904 a meeting of representatives of the ministries empowered “to consider issues concerning the project of a government telegraph agency” adopted the basic documents for the creation and operation of SPTA.

The project to launch SPTA was approved by last Russian Tsar Nicholas the Second. The agency had to “report within the Empire and abroad political, financial, economic, trade and other data of public interest”. Three directors, one from each of the Finance, Interior and Foreign Ministries, comprised the panel that managed the agency.

History repeats and repeats and repeats.

When Newsom was being recalled you could plainly see how the local media was in the tank for the democrats. This will make it worse now that they are being paid by the taxpayers by way of the democrat party.

Imagine if all the fast food restaurants decided to ‘create meals and menus for ‘PulitzEats Prizes’ - - rather than for their customers.

And for reasons unknown the “prizes’ generally were awarded to fast food restaurants serving raw food. Nigiri, steak tartare, sushi, raw marinated vegetables etc etc etc. After a while the 15% of people who like raw food were the only people eating at fast food places... and they started downsizing their staffs to save money, then cut the comics sections, cried in their wine glasses over a dying profession... And finally decided to function as the food arm of the democrat party in exchange for money, donations, and favorable ‘ins’ with the ‘PulitzEats Prize Judges...

There’s a point where it’s no longer ‘journalism’...

As if 95% of the media wouldn’t promote the California Government’s Communist Propaganda without the extra pay.

Although I guess some of them would work a little harder at it if they were getting paid for the same thing by both their publications and their politicians.

There's a lot of money being made by just being "of color."

Billions doled out just during and after the Summer of Floyd.

And the subsidies never end. Young white men are facing so many systematic disadvantages in education and employment (including from legal immigrants of color).
