Former President Donald Trump on Thursday called for increased immigration, insisting "we need more people, especially with AI coming."

"We're going to let a lot of people come in, because we need more people, especially with AI coming and all the different things," Trump said. "And the farmers need, everybody needs but we're going to make sure they're not murderers and drug dealers."

No....but you’d have thought he’d get the benefit of any doubt, considering he’s said it a thousand times.

...especially here on FR.

SMH.

Is FR just ‘anti immigrant’ now? If so, this FR member, for all that I’ve contributed for decades, will leave where I’m not welcome....as a naturalized citizen since 2000. I bet I pay more in taxes than most here.

I remember Trump all the way back in 2015 saying he was in favor of legal immigration, so I’m not actually sure this is inconsistent. I suppose some of his supporters may have assumed since he’s hard against illegal immigration, he disfavors legal immigration too, but I don’t remember him saying that, for better or worse.

I’d personally take a targeted and limited increase in legal immigration if it was paired with a drastic decrease in illegal immigration, though I don’t think increases in either are in any way necessary. At any rate, everyone needs to remember his opponent has been responsible for an almost unimaginably huge and unprecedented increase in border crossings and wants a pathway to citizenship (and voting rights). We have to stop her to save the country.

No we are not anti-immigrant. You know that and thank you for choosing to be here LEGALLY. Don’t let the agitators doubt us or you. Please.

To clear up some of this fear of AI, I work on teams that build and train AI models. AI cannot think for itself, no matter how well we pull off that illusion on the screen. AI is also not replacing core jobs. It’s replacing redundant project managers, pencil pushers, and roles that have standard repeatable tasks. But if your role requires you to think, you aren’t getting replaced. At least not anytime soon.

AI models can only do what they are trained. So where people should be concerned is on the people doing the training. If AI tells a doctor to not perform a life saving surgery, it’s because someone trained it to say that. If AI launches nukes, it’s because stupid people gave it the codes and access. A lot of people with decision making power are going to sign off on and rush AI models so they can check a box and pat themselves on the back, but they won’t understand a thing about the technology. That’s where the mistakes are going to come from.

The importation of even the best foreigners is part and parcel of the strategy of keeping our own citizens uneducated and lazy, which seems to be the global goal of both left and right in the US.

The people in a small country like Finland or the Netherlands have a psychology that every kid must be plugged in to a useful career, and this philosophy spills over even to how the kids are treated in infancy. Everyone has to be a responsible contributor to society. They don't have a constant influx of a pre-educated adult immigrant class to energize and save them every generation.

It has been too long that Americans have had a don't know/don't care attitude about producing smart and responsible high school and college grads. The moron factories known as public schools would be unthinkable in any other civilized nation.'Let the immigrants come in and take up the slack,' has been the background thinking of American CEOs, university professors, and pols.

This strategy may have worked in 1862, the year of the Homestead Act, (though back then their grade schools graduated the equivalent of our junior college grads) but it is now pretty much obvious that importing hostiles, even those with a technical or professional credentials, is suicidal.

Let's start paying attention to our own American kids.

STRICT moratorium on immigration. We need to export illegals and hostiles, and assimilate nonhostile immigrants, as common sense and a desire for self-preservation would dictate.

As far as President Trump goes, yes I love him, but, he needs to put more content into his speeches and less mindless rallyspeak and dredging up of past wrongs, though they are innumerable and outrageous.

We are all hip to what they have done to him.

He needs to talk more about the gold standard, balancing the budget, reforming the government. Of course he is much better now than he used to be, this particular misstep excepted.

But we absolutely don't need any more immigrants. Not right now. Not for another 30 years.

Nope...can't agree with him there. We need an absolute...a COMPLETE...halt to immigration at least for a while. And that includes issuing Green Cards and granting citizenship to those who already hold Green Cards.

During this halt a massive deportation program should start for wetbacks and an analysis of just who we want coming to this country should be conducted.

IMO we want Canadians, most Europeans...particularly Poles,Hungarians and people from the Baltics...we want Aussies...Koreans...and Japanese.

I’d like to see an America where we pick our own strawberries and dig our own ditches. Its absolutely possible, but our government and monetary system would have to change radically, which even Trump will not do.

There is no “right kind” of deep-state globalism.

Yes, and the US was entirely dysfunctional and flailing before we let all the migrants in, right? We couldn’t have become the super power we are, put a man on the moon or created high tech innovations without them, right?

If that is your policy, Trump, you’re no different from Kamala.

He said LEGAL immigration. Those get vetted. If they cannot account for their time/behavior, REJECT.
That has worked for over a century. And, it is the process that was once used in all countries.

Silicon Valley overwhelmingly votes Democrat globalist, farm/mfg workers overwhelmingly vote for whoever promises the most freebies which is Democrat.

It’s still better than the open borders nightmare. It’s sad that both choices are a loss of our identity and culture.

I try, I really do. But then I read what you people post and see how easily you are manipulated, and I just can't help myself. Add to that the never-ending stream of butt hurt never-Trumpers and zeepers, forget about it.

I don’t think Trump ever said he was against Legal Immigration. Just that we need a process in place to make sure we get the best people to come here.
