“ The Justice Department has defended the law President Biden signed in April on national security grounds. They have stated that the app could be weaponized by China to disseminate propaganda to 170 million Americans and that TikTok could be used to help the Chinese government collect personal information of its users.”

The Biden DOJ is very experienced in disseminating propaganda via social media. They just don’t want any competition.

The TIKTOK ban concern came from the government concern that Government Employees data could be spied on if those Employees had TIKTOK on their phone.

So, why are government employees on TIKTOK all day, especially on a government supplied phone or a personal one used for routine communications with government business ???

Why can’t they just ban government employees from having TIKTOK on their work phones ?

These ‘spy’ programs that TIKTOK is suspected of having... would that be things like... Virus / Trojan / Keylogger / Phishing Tool / Cookies / Redirects / Pop-ups / Spam ?????????
All of these things are available from any American ‘app’ so it won’t stop the spying. If the Chinese aren’t allowed to use an app to spy, they can purchase it from Google, FB, etc.

Even more Irony.

TikTok, which heavily sensors conservative speech claims free speech rights to keep platform going.

Well,, that is how things work in our government.

TikTok never reveals why a post gets removed or an account banned.

Is that a law? If they ban a user, they no longer can 'spy' on that user, so it would be counter-productive to ban users if your goal is to spy on everyone.

But they demand transparency from our intelligence agencies.

And our intelligence agencies/committees do so. Even when not asked to. But mostly for cash.

“And if Congress is, as you insist, so much in bed with China, why then would Congress attack Tik Tok, an asset of Communist China?”

Because it is one of the few things from China they cannot control. Even the myth that the app is Chinese government controlled is a lie. They are a private company that NEITHER China or our government can control. Like someone already said above, TikTok and Twitter. They are after Twitter because they cannot control it, Musk kicked them out. They are going to wipe out everything they cannot have a backdoor into. Signal and Telegram message apps are next because they are encrypted and there are no backdoors they can utilize.

“If the President, Congress, and the courts are no check against abuses of power,”

You don’t get it... They ARE the abuses of power and want to go unchecked.

“Free speech protections, the government has argued in its papers, should not extend to a Chinese-controlled recommendation engine.”

“Free speech protections” to them equals controlled information and propaganda. “Recommendations” equals controlled narratives. “We recommend that you think the way we want you to think”.

TikTok will not let them control the “recommended” narrative and propaganda. They are mad that TikTok is actually allowing free speech and they can’t control it.

He started all the talk of banning TikTok. So if it bites him in the ass he only has himself to blame.

If circumstances are as bad as you insist they are, then how does forcing a sale of TikTok from Chinese Communist ownership make them worse?

“If circumstances are as bad as you insist they are, then how does forcing a sale of TikTok from Chinese Communist ownership make them worse?”

Because this law handed the government power and control of the internet and internet companies it did not have before. Once you give them an inch they take a mile. When it comes to government things like this need to be nipped in the bud and not allowed in the first place.

Read the law again... It is not just about “TikTok”, it is not just phone apps. It is everything on the net where one can post personal opinions or exercise free speech. It even applies to server hosting, so they can shut down server hosting companies just because they are hosting questionable domains. And crap runs downhill, hosts will shut down domain customers and throw them under the bus before they let themselves get hit by the government. The TikTok excuse was used to ensnare the whole internet industry under the umbrella of control.

See? They told us they only wanted an inch (TikTok) and actually already took a mile and expanded it to the whole industry with this bill alone. Now they will use this open door to expand powers over everything for any reason they like. It should not have been supported and it should not have been passed. It is a gateway drug (power and control) for those in government who want even more powerful (power and control) drugs.

They now have their nose in the door and soon the whole beast will be in the room. We should have locked that door and absolutely refused to open it.

And here is the worst part. It now opens the door for government to extort and threaten domains, companies, and server hosts into doing their bidding or face being harassed out of business. Would they do this?

YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT!

The bill allows them to ban FR because we "support" Russia.

Yes it's that simple.

No, the law is limited to apps controlled by a foreign adversary. Rabid alarmism is not justified by the facts.

“No, the law is limited to apps controlled by a foreign adversary. Rabid alarmism is not justified by the facts.”

And the only thing holding back the situation I just explained is ONE conjunction change.

And you can bet it is coming. Where did you get your trust in such a crooked government? Work for them? Shill for them? Work domains and do damage control for them? Live under a rock?

When have they never taken advantage of every opportunity to expand their power over the people? If you do not understand this very real prerequisite you are definitely in the wrong room. It as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow morning this will expand to control over the whole internet and the end of free speech.

Just like China... Ironic they cuss China when they want to have the very same communist control over the people that China exemplifies. Only a completely blind mind cannot see this factual end goal.

At least I remember recent history. During his presidency Trump suggested banning TikTok. That happened.

And that is an outright lie government guy...

(5) INTERNET HOSTING SERVICE.—The term “internet hosting service” means a service through which storage and computing resources are provided to an individual or organization for the accommodation and maintenance of 1 or more websites or online services, and which may include file hosting, domain name server hosting, cloud hosting, and virtual private server hosting.

Because as soon as they passed the TikTok bill they were emboldened and tried to pass the KOSA bill. Which was almost successful! This is that MILE I speak of.
