The Ukrainian parliament has approved a law that would allow authorities to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), which Kiev has repeatedly accused of having ties to Russia, according to an MP. The legislation also outright bans the Russian Orthodox Church and all affiliated religious institutions.

No churches....no elections...I’d call it a Dictatorship
I don’t have a dog in this particular fight, but what churches does this leave for Ukrainian Christians?
We have a UOC in a nearby town here in Upstate NY.
Anyone here still want to defend Ukraine?
The Ukrainian Catholic Church (cf. "Shoes of the Fisherman"), and all the minor Protestant/evanglical churches.
I thought communists were godless heathens.
That's Nazi right thing to do.
However, it is the GloboHomo thing to do.
But Russia bad, right?
Who bans a Christian church?
Someone who really has a problem with Christian values.
I wonder which values in particular Zelensky has a problem with.
“The Ukrainian Catholic Church (cf. “Shoes of the Fisherman”), and all the minor Protestant/evanglical churches.”
Whereas in Russia,the only permitted Church is the Russian Orthodox Church. All others are banned/discouraged.

About 72% of Ukrainians are Eastern Orthodox and they will continue to be, just not the branch that is tied to the government which is invading Ukraine and which probably far less than 4% of Ukraine identifies with.
“The July 2022 KIIS survey found only 1 in 25 of Ukrainians (4%) identified with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP)”.
“Conversely, in 2022 more than half of Ukrainians (54%) identified with the autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU)”.
According to a 2012 survey held in Russia by Sreda Arena, 66,840,000 people in the country (47.4% of the total population) identify as Christians.
This includes:
41.1%—58,800,000 members of the Russian Orthodox Church;
4.1%—5,900,000 people identifying as Christians without belonging to any church;
1.5%—2,100,000 people believing in Orthodox Christianity without belonging to any Orthodox church or belonging to non-Russian churches;
0.3%—400,000 Old Believers;
0.2%—300,000 Protestants;
0.1%—140,000 members of the Catholic Church;
0.1%—140,000 Pentecostals
Church of England is available
This is so stupid. Christian vs. Christian while Muslims are succeeding in colonizing the entire continent. STOP! Fight the real enemies together.
The claim we're helping Ukrainians fight for democracy and freedom with $200 billon of US taxpayer money is laughable.
Seems like a strange move for a “democracy” we’ve sent billions to in order to protect democracy
The article is full of “motivated reasoning” and skipping over relevant facts.
The point is about who runs the church. In the case of this one it is run out of Moscow, and toes the Russian government line. There is now a Ukrainian church that has the same theology and rituals but reports to their leadership in Kiev.
The Russian Orthodox church has long been closely tied to, and mainly subservient to the Russian regime. It has been so going back centuries. A different regime requires similar loyalty from its slice of what was once the Russian Orthodox church. Simple as that.
Fake headline and another thread where posters won’t look into this and will keep posting the same made up nonsense they have been ignorant about or lying about for years now, pretending that the issue is Ukraine banning Christianity and/or Eastern Orthodoxy.
Years of them not looking into this and ignoring posts that explain it.
There are vastly more Muslims in Russia than Ukraine.
And “Christians” can be awful to Christians. Pretty much a constant in European history.
