As thousands of journalists come to Chicago next week to cover the Democratic National Convention, many of their newsrooms will be forking over a large chunk of money to gain a certain level of access, internet speed, and even seating inside the United Center.
For an assigned chair at a table with access to an electrical outlet at the DNC, that will cost a newsroom $751. Missed the advance rate? That will now be $911.
And dedicated hard-line internet costs are separate.
“I took a deep breath and I rolled my eyes,” said Erika Hobbs, who oversees the Austin Weekly News, when she saw the price. “The cost was way too high.”
In comparison, a similar setup at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee cost $100.

Yo, you guys don’t understand how it works in Chjcaga. We got union rules and expenses. and the alderman needs a new set of wheels.
Kamala has shown she’s an expert on “price-gouging” and a master at fence building.
Wow - Our Democracy (tm) knows a capitalist business opportunity when they see one...
Been to many conventions. The facility charges for electricity, a carpet, trash can etc. The unions in Chicago are really bad, but they have a captive market.
Democrats just make as many people as miserable as possible.
It is their “brat” nature.
:-)
Sounds like McCormick Place.
Bidenomics strikes again!
Lol.
back in the day, at any of the expos at Chicago’s McCormick place, if you wanted to plug in your computer or lights or whatever, you had to hire a union electrician to do.
Wonder if any of that is going on at the DNC ? If not, why not from the Union lovers ?
There it is. Republicans let you keep more of your money.
INFLATION HITS DNC also.
I was just at a trade show in Chicago. I had my pickup full of stuff for our booth. They required two people in the truck for some stupid reason. I had three guys waiting for me at the dock but that didn’t matter. Stupid Chicago.
The non advance rzte will be 911...
Theres some irony there...
Greed and Gouging. Harris, get on this ASAP! Walk the talk!
I was starting up a coal fired boiler at a paper mill in northern Arizona in the 70s. I needed to make a very simple adjustment to a coal pulverized. I grabbed my wrench and nearly shut the project down. The union boss schooled me on the correct way to make, the adjustment:
1. Carpenter to put down scaffold planks.
2. Laborer to sweep up when we were done.
3. Millwright to disconnect a flexible connection line.
4. Electrician to hold the drop light.
5. Boiler maker just because we were working on the boiler.
6. Pipe fitter because we were near his pipes.
7. Service Engineer to tell all the help what to do (me)
How much for hawk tuey
The under ground parking garage at McCormick place is huge.
I forgot to make a note of my parked car location, and was walking for ever to find it.
I like the way they price these things to a single dollar. $750 just wouldn’t cover it. It’s like the parking signs with fines of $213.
$751?
Well, probably still cheaper than the cheapest crack whore in town will be charging this week, so not a bad deal.
