bout four months after a notorious hacking group claimed to have stolen an extraordinary amount of sensitive personal information from a major data broker, a member of the group has reportedly released most of it for free on an online marketplace for stolen personal data.
The breach, which includes Social Security numbers and other sensitive data, could power a raft of identity theft, fraud and other crimes, said Teresa Murray, consumer watchdog director for the U.S. Public Information Research Group.

If this is true, shouldn’t it be like the feature story of every news agency in the US. This is potentially a pretty darn big deal.

Yes, we had better get everyone new gubmint I.D. - maybe retina scans / fingerprints like India has already been doing for the past 12-13 years or so.

the job required a basic security clearance.

In all seriousness, it was 1984 when I was writing software for a regional bank - I realized how easily the Mark of the Beast could occur if cash were eliminated - so I wondered how I could spread God’s Word all over the planet before it happened.

The bank got a new IBM PC XT with color display - it was $8,000. I and most of the rest of the staff were not allowed to use that computer.

I made recommendations for upgrading an IBM Sys/36 - I wrote up $36,000-$40,000 in additions - later, I saw that they spent ...... $200,000. But still leased the COBOL package I had recommended - it was only about $2,500 to purchse it - they spent a bit more than that on the lease before finally buying it. I was converting our payroll over to ADP.
The idiots merged my credit with someone else.

You do everything to protect yourself but a 3rd party does not care and your info is released either by them getting paid or stolen.
I was hoping that my VA and/or SS disability claims would be approved and if so, I'd be able to pay some more of my debt with the back payments I would receive. But I have no faith the VA will approve anything since they keep denying me, and the SS disability may take as long as next summer to completely play out and I don't want to wait that long on a maybe.
IF you have been the victim of Identity Theft it is free.
Plus some states like MA it is also free.
It is much better than paying for some credit monitoring service. The only issue is that IF you want to take out a loan in the future, you will have to contact all four agencies and unlock your credit.
For me it was the best option. I do not have a mortgage anymore or any car loans. I have four credit cards. I do not need any more.
