Elon Musk and Donald Trump had scheduled their conversation to begin at 8 p.m. Eastern Time as an X livestream. However, at 8 p.m., millions of the people who went to X found themselves staring at a blank purple square, thanks to a massive DDoS attack.* However, once the interview started, Trump finally had the space to expand on what matters to Americans, with Musk there to corral him gently when he went too far afield.
According to X data, the number of people who ultimately watched and talked about the conversation is staggering:
Combined views of the conversation with @realDonaldTrump and subsequent discussion by other accounts now ~1 billion https://t.co/s8x8QmdmnY
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 13, 2024
(As of this writing, 166 million people have viewed the interview tweet on Trump’s X page. And of course, the interview is spread across myriad other forums. The embed below is from an Indian outlet.)
This is great because Musk let Trump explain what a second Trump administration will look like. Instead of gotcha questions, other than the opening discussion about the assassination attempt, it was all about policies that will affect the U.S. for decades to come. The following is are my rough notes of the discussion between Elon Musk and Donald Trump.

It was a conversation. Musk carefully advertised it as a conversation, not an interview. This format elicited a lot of information, with Elon Musk interspersing with his own opinions, allowing Trump to refine his comments. This was not a hostile interview; it was an extremely comprehensive talk. This was much better—and infinitely more informative—than Dana Bash’s hostile attacks on Vance when she “interviewed” him.
The assassination attempt. Musk complimented Trump’s courage under fire.

Between 7:47 PM and 10:47 PM ET, President Donald Trump's Space post received 73 million views. During the same period, there were 4 million posts about Elon Musk and President Trump's conversation on 𝕏, generating a total of 998 million views.
I gave up on it after 20 minutes. I’ll have to catch the video when I get a chance.
I love President Trump, but he says basically the same thing at every event. Musk’s comments might be interesting, though.
Two hour interview. Was both similar & different to a campaign speech.
It got better as it went on and they got in a groove. At points serious and others comedic. But if you were looking for something new, that wasn’t there. It was just nice because to see a forum where Trump could talk without some engaged nostril flaring “journalist” was interrupting him at every turn.
“When the government is wrong it impoverishes the people”.
Elon Musk
Long form interview. It's what Joe Rogan does.
He does say the same thing and most who follow him have heard it. But there’s a substantial number of people who have never heard anything but the media filtered Trump.
Elon Musk: Explains that he is a moderate Democrat and that “For the good of the country, Trump must win this election.”
This:
The political parties in the US are basically dead to the American people. We have a Uniparty now which has killed the differences between the parties that used to exist.
We have the elites, and we have the serfs, we have the evil against the good, we have the MAGA nationalists against the global communists.
There is no such thing as a moderate democrat anymore, Elon. There is also no such thing as a old style Republican. Those people may be out there, but they are artifacts of defunct and meaningless parties destroyed by corruption and greed.
So, if I understand correctly, you’re stating that President Trump is doing a good job of staying “on message”.
I agree.
It shouldn’t have BEEN new material. If the point was a new forum directed to a new audience, then the requirement was to repackage old material that we know cold into a form that neutral or suspicious listeners would slowly take in and digest, think about and make their own judgements of what others have been telling them.
A neighbor who is a Trump supporter was on Facebook this morning but she doesn’t listen to rallies etc like a lot of us..this is her post . This is why Trump repeats his message a lot, he’s still educating the people.
After listening to the Trump/Musk interview, I learned alot.
Inflation is caused by overspending by the government not the BS they feed us.
Crime rates are down in foreign countries because they are taking the murderers and bad people out of prison and sending them here. Venezuelas crime rate down 70 percent.
If democrats are elected, it will only get worse. A 3rd world country. Don’t let that happen if you love this country. They are speaking false promises.
The simplest and best explanation of inflation I have heard (and my major in college was economics) was "inflation is caused by too much money chasing too few goods."
There was no doubt that the Biden/Harris administration and the Democrats were going to exacerbate inflation with their policies of trillions in spending and the unnecessary continuation of lockdowns. Money was being poured in to the economy while simultaneously the supply of good and services were locked up. The Trump administration had started the opening of the government money spigot to soften the impact of the "two weeks to bend the curve" shut down, but all that was then dragged out way too long by the Democrats.

I figured there would be problems due to the vast numbers trying to listen and the bad guys trying to throw a wrench into the works. So I’m listening to it now with a link from the Pam Gellar site.
