Singer Isaac Hayes’ Family Threatens to Sue Trump for Millions over Rally Song Use
Breitbart ^ | 08/12/2024 | Simon Kent

Former President Donald Trump has been ordered to stop to playing the late soul singer Isaac Hayes song Hold On, I’m Coming at his campaign rallies.

A letter sent to Trump and his team by the musician and actor’s surviving family members, and shared by Hayes’ son on social media, threatens to sue Trump if he does not comply by 16 August.

Hayes’ attorneys note in the letter that $3 million requested as compensation for previous use is “a very discounted fee” from the usual rate of $150,000 per use of the song, which based on the number of times Hold On has allegedly been used by the campaign, would lead to a total that “will be 10 times as much if we litigate.”

This is so laughable,, that all these singers who license their music for public use,,protest about Trump using their music.

There’s probably some virtue signaling going on here the singers want to make it clear that they would never support Trump.

The family must love the way Democrats enslaved Blacks over the decades with their welfare programs that created the ghetto and hopelessness.

Fair use; every radio station already uses bumper songs. Did they release a perfect, complete version on the rally video with no crowd sounds or announcers? That would be bad.

This happens every four years. The question I have is whether the campaigns pay the license fee to use the song or not. If they do, screw Hayes and his family. If they use it in violation of license laws, then they are stupid because they should know that any Republican using any song is going to get this blowback.

Isn’t there a BMI or ASCAP rate? David Porter, who co-wrote the song, is still alive. What does he say?

Yup. Looking for a payout. It’s a double win. It puts the song back in the spotlight and they get a possible settlement for a copyright infringement.

In all the other cases, they have said they just don’t want Trump (Or other Republicans) using a song. In this case, the family does not say they don’t want him using the song. So, I’m not sure about your conclusion.

Who’s the black private dick
That’s a sex machine to all the chicks?
(Shaft!)
Ya damn right!
Who is the man
That would risk his neck for his brother man?
(Shaft!)
Can ya dig it?
Who’s the cat that won’t cop out
When there’s danger all about?
(Shaft!)
Right on!
You see this cat, Shaft is a bad motha-
(Shut your mouth!)
But I’m talkin’ about Shaft!
(Then we can dig it!)
He’s a complicated man,
But no one understands him but his woman
(John Shaft!)

From the article:

“In their legal missive, the family of Isaac Hayes claimed to have “asked repeatedly” for Trump to stop using the song.”

Okay, I miss that, but then why are they giving him an allegedly discounted rate? And what does the living writer of the song say?
