Hurricane Debby made landfall near Steinhatchee, Florida in the Florida Big Bend. While moving inland, Debby was downgraded to a Tropical Storm. The storm is expected to bring major flooding to the Southeastern U.S. over the next several days as the storm slows to a crawl.

Storm strengthening is expected as Debby emerges into the very warm waters of the Atlantic Gulf Stream.
Scary,looks like part of it is headed to us,flooding event.Bucks County Pa.
Not good. I see this storm’s track and I can’t help but think of a combination of a slow-moving rain maker like TS Agnes combined with a strengthening Atlantic Hurricane like Isabel that tracked up the east coast and then came inland and right up the Chesapeake Bay causing catastrophic winds and also coastal flooding.
Wind field expanded to 205 miles, east of center. Very big.

Hard to imagine the length of this storm we had one between 5 and 6 as well.
If this thing stops moving its gonna be really bad news for several states.
My Pasco County friend sent a pic.
His oceanfront canal is full to the brim. The ocean is resisting the offshore flow of fresh water.
There is substantial ponding in front and back yards. Beloved avocado tree is in standing water. Much easier to see the standing water glistening through the grass now that the sun has peeked through for the first time in 3.5 days. Bah!
I’ll be spraying to ward off ‘skeeters in the very near future.
N/S Carolina are just in a world of hurt. Debby isn’t even gonna go inland until about 36 hours from now. While regaining hurricane strength seems off the table now, it may not even matter since the entire region is gonna see a foot or more of rainfall.

I was talking about Floyd yesterday. That storm caused an ecological disaster with catastrophic flooding in a heavily agricultural and livestock industry region.
Our local tv news was covering Debby aftermath. A local Catholic high school has all of its athletic fields underwater, with school starting next week. Sheriff’s Dept. is working to rescue large livestock, including horses stranded in the flood waters.
Then they showed a photo of a red car crushed by a tall tree. They said it was in Bluffton GA. I wondered if they meant Bluffton SC. There is a Bluffton GA, NW of Tallahassee. Anyhow, I thought we would have enough local storm damage without showing fallen trees in other states. 🙄
Darn... Debby needs to speed up get the heck outta here!
Super impressed with the power situation here *so far*. Power went out last night around 7pm for a few seconds. Electricity, cable, security cameras, etc. were all back very quickly! Completely different than where we were in CT. We'd be in the dark for 2 weeks if a storm like this passed through. Love those buried utility lines. :-)
Tropical Storm Debby spawned a tornado in Edisto Beach, SC
The meteorologists on our local NBC affiliate (WSAV) out of Savannah were following these 'spinout tornadoes' all night / early AM. It was fascinating, yet terrifying to watch. A few were heading sort of in our direction, but fizzled out. We'll probably be under Tornado Watch again tonight though. :-(
