Are Democrats really more likely to be childless cat ladies?

By now, you’re probably aware Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance has described Democrats as “childless cat ladies” with no “direct stake” in America’s future. We, on the other hand, have been ears-deep in data. ...

About 38 percent of Democrats had never had children as of 2022, compared with 26 percent of Republicans, according to the universally beloved General Social Survey from the universally beloved NORC at the University of Chicago....

... in recent years, Democrats have become a bit more likely to be childless no matter their age. In fact, they’re more likely to be childless across almost every demographic....

The shift has been most pronounced among young women, particularly those under age 35, who make up a fast-rising share of the Democratic coalition. That means we should probably acknowledge the elephant in the room. And by “elephant,” we mean “cat.”...

My first cat after I was a working woman was named Miss McCarthy. After Joe of course. Women like fighters. Lots of family cats thru the years, owners are responsible Republican ladies.

For a while I found it very, very depressing. But as I kept on doing it, the depression turned into something more positive. I can't describe it exactly, but I just started accepting it.

I don't know if you are a praying man, but I do know that that helped me a huge amount. I didn't get any answers per se, but something changed inside me about this matter. I just started to feel more hopeful--like I was a very small of part of a very big plan that I couldn't see or understand.

I think it all comes down to just how incredibly painful it is to love others, even animals...or maybe particularly animals, because there's so little we can do to help them.

Anyway, as I said, hang in there.:-)

Yes, I work with a woman who fits that description perfectly. She is a lefty cat lady.
