Google omits Trump assassination attempt from a key feature as Don Jr. claims ‘Big Tech is trying to interfere in the election’
NY Post ^ | July 28, 2024 | Chris Nesi

Posted on 07/29/2024 6:12:28 AM PDT by lasereye

A key Google feature is failing to show results for the attempted assassination of Donald Trump — drawing claims from the former president’s son that Big Tech companies are trying to influence the election.

It has also sparked a Senate investigation.

Google users were surprised to discover that the search engine’s “Autocomplete” was apparently omitting suggested results related to the assassination attempt against Donald Trump.

The anomaly quickly caught the attention of social media users, including a Texas congressman and Donald Trump Jr., who began sharing screenshots of their own examples showing Google search suggestions coming up empty for queries about the deadly Pennsylvania rally shooting.

There’s no mention of Trump even when the entire search term “the assassination attempt of” is typed into the Google homepage search bar.

The Post performed a series of test Google searches with the last names of US presidents who were killed or faced attempts on their lives followed by the letters “assassi” to see what Autocomplete suggested, including John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and Teddy Roosevelt.

In each instance, a helpful list of recommended search terms related to the attempts on their lives sprang into view.

However, when Trump’s name was used, Autocomplete offered no suggestions whatsoever.

Even the keywords “Trump assassination attempt” yielded no additional terms from Google.

The Post was able to recreate the alleged anomaly and found Autocomplete did not suggest searches related to the assassination attempt against former President Trump even when inputted in full. Nesi, Chris Google’s search results still point to news articles about the July 13 shooting.

A Google spokesperson told The Post that there was no “manual action taken on these predictions,” and that its systems include “protections” against Autocomplete predictions “associated with political violence.”

Tested it.

That would convince a judge. Obviously with malicious intent.

They may be over-compensating, trying to NOT incite political violence, but in the process, suppressing an important event.

DuckDuckGo works as you would expect. “Assassination Attempt Tr” yields 5 items about Trump and one about Truman.

Google is controlling what you see.

Same with YouTube algorithms

Yet Freepers post many articles a day here linking YouTube when the exact same material is on Rumble

I try to post the Rumble link in those articles to direct people away from google products but I’m just one person :) (see my tagline)

Same thing with conservatives on X

Fox example Trump rallies - pro Trump people tweet out the YouTube RSBN link and not Rumble

Even though YouTube banned trump for two years and parent company google does things like this thread topic
Yet conservatives drive traffic and ad revenue to google by posted YouTube links

I don’t get it

easy to fix - use a different search engine. I use Chrome Search and it immediately brought up the Trump attempt. Of course, this doesn’t help the stupid people who still use Google.

Unless DuckDuckGo is in this as well. The same searches have almost identical results.

The FedGov broke up Ma Bell in 1984.

Breaking up Google, Meta, Microsoft, etc is way overdue. Make that way, way overdue.

If Google's search engine was separated from the rest of Google (YouTube, advertising, Android, Google Cloud etc.) this and similar problems would continue. Likewise if YouTube was separated then censorship problems would persist there. The same with anything else.

Likewise, I don't know how separating Oculus from Meta ends censorship on Facebook.
