The Environmental Protection Agency on Monday announced an investment of $4.3 billion into community-driven projects in an effort to ramp up local climate action across the country.
The funding will go to 25 recipients across 30 states, ranging from projects involving forest management to household energy efficiency. It will also help states, cities and territories develop climate action plans to meet local sustainability goals.
Details about the latest funding were shared with the media on an embargoed basis Friday, two days before President Biden’s announcement that he was dropping his reelection bid. The funding reflects how the Biden administration is rushing to distribute climate money before the November election. This month, the Energy Department unveiled $1.7 billion for retooling 11 auto factories to make electric vehicles and their components.

In the mountains of eastern Kentucky the heat pump works pretty well most of the time. But when the temps hit 25 or below they struggle and that heating element has to work hard to keep you warm and it’s not a toasty warm either.
In extreme cold we use an Eden floor model supplemental heater or turn the propane gas logs in the fireplace on, they will run you out of our den.
I also have the Harman Pellet insert in the family room where one of the mini splits indoor units would have been.
So, I already have a second source of heat instead of the forced Hot water heating oil fired boiler. I only burn about two tons now.
Keep in mind too that we have pretty high electric rates here in NH. If I lived in Idaho or Washington where electricity was cheap then it might make sense.
The only thing I have considered is the mini splits that I would install myself. There are several YouTube videos about how to install the ones that come as a kit. All you need is a 15 or 20 amp circuit installed to power it. Which I could also do myself. I have about five open spots in my 200 amp panel.

I don’t know how it works in Ohio, but here in Texas I think furnace air might sometimes be cooler than outside air.

A dual zone retails for $2k. No way installation is $5500.
When I installed the variable speed heat pump, I replaced the gas furnace with electric heat strips. I did that only because I have a lot of solar and can produce most of the power we need. Unfortunately I can't produce my own natural gas, or I would have stuck with the gas furnace. It's important to me to be more self-reliant with energy to help my wife and mine's budget handle the Dims' eternal warmageddon cult and their energy price policies.
We installed one & it saved us after the furnace guy tagged our furnace in below zero weather. Kept the house at 40 and we used space heaters & our wood fireplace until they could get the new furnace installed.
Yes they do but not as effective. See my other post. Kept my house from freezing.

There is no way you will get ONE mini split installed around here(southern NH) for less than $400-4500. I know several people who have had them done. If you want one that serves two inside units they are at least $6000.
That is why I was considering installing one myself. There are two companies that sell the kits. I have watched multiple YouTube videos. The lines come pre-charged with coolant. I would have to install a new circuit to power it with a GFI on the outside and a dedicated circuit on the inside. The circuit in my family room already has my Pellet Insert, TV, lights, router and multiple other items plugged into it. The kits cost about $2500.
Hey, give the Government a break. They had to spend 90% of those billions to satisfy all the DEI requirements before they actually started building those chargers.
