“give us our space” = same page as you
“when our legal counsel advises us to do so” = never
“take care of ourselves” = horse hockey. They called to report their 20 year old son missing immediately. Seems something was up with him mentally that they should have taken care of. Can’t remember the guy’s name who did a mass shooting who’s parents ended up in prison so could these parents face the same charges? The obviously knew to be so worried about his whereabouts and how did they know to check to make sure the rifle was still at the house? Knew they had big time legal counsel immediately which begs the question if the government is providing it.
It's not 1955 any more.
If you have a mentally ill adult son living with you (or a teenager for that matter), you will spend uncounted nights in ERs waiting to pick him up after the cops drop him off, and uncounted days PLEADING for involuntary hospitalization, which is basically never going to be offered, and will take your house and all your assets if it ever, by some miracle, happens.
The destruction of involuntary commitment in this country because of the 1960s, one stupid book, and one stupid movie, is among the greatest crimes of the last 70 years.
