Trump shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks’ father speaks out for first time after son tried to assassinate former president

The father of would-be Donald Trump assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks has revealed the family is just trying to “take care of ourselves” — as he stepped out in public for the first time since the shooting.

Matthew Brian Crooks, 53, made the remarks as he was spotted leaving a grocery store on Monday, Fox News reported.

“We just want to try to take care of ourselves right now. Please, just give us our space,” Crooks said as he loaded bag-loads of items into his car.

“We’re going to release a statement when our legal counsel advises us to do so – until then, we have no comment.”

It marks the first time the dad has spoken out since his 20-year-old son opened fire with an AR-15 rifle during Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pa. on July 13.

The would-be assassin was shot dead by a Secret Service counter sniper just moments after he managed to clip the former president in the ear with one of his bullets.

Crooks’ father, a registered Libertarian, had legally purchased the rifle used in his son’s attack.

Seems something was up with him mentally that they should have taken care of

It's not 1955 any more.

If you have a mentally ill adult son living with you (or a teenager for that matter), you will spend uncounted nights in ERs waiting to pick him up after the cops drop him off, and uncounted days PLEADING for involuntary hospitalization, which is basically never going to be offered, and will take your house and all your assets if it ever, by some miracle, happens.

The destruction of involuntary commitment in this country because of the 1960s, one stupid book, and one stupid movie, is among the greatest crimes of the last 70 years.

For the record, we don’t know for sure the kid committed murder. We do know that the lying FBI cannot be trusted and they say he was a lone gunman. We do know auditory forensics PROVE their were more than one shooter. It is possible the first three shots that hit people were fired by assassins behind (the possible patsy) Crooks, and he was instructed to shoot when they did.

This is why recordings from multiple locations is so important. With dispersed recordings the location of each shooter can be triangulated, similarly to how GPS requires at least 3 or 4 satellites to work.

Absolutely! Spot on. You'll never see hospitals more in a hurry than to discharge the mentally ill as quickly as possible. If you're lucky, you can land a 72 hour pink slip. Beyond that, you're on your own until the next crisis arises.

Now I would say that in that sort of situation it would be unwise to have firearms easily accessible and available. I don't know what the situation was specifically, so I'm not going to jump on it.

But I absolutely agree with your take on the state of mental health care today.

It’s absolutely the best policy. Some people think they have some obligation to speak to the media. They don’t. And most of the time they shouldn’t.

“It was His rifle. He is culpable.”

His misbegotten son was 20 years old — not a child. It’s the shooter’s fault. The kids was culpable.

Isn’t it encouraging that the same people who “investigated” the Vegas Shooting are now in charge of the Trump assassination attempt? /s. (sigh!)

I recall that as well. It was a barbaric and torturous murder. It took a lot of wisdom and courage to humbly present himself to the family in that way. Luckily, they had the presence of mind, to accept this man’s gesture of empathy and atonement for something he did not directly do.

He’s just now speaking out? I’m just not there with the REAL Mathew Crooks as the shooter. I think the parents have kept silent because the deep state paid them well for their son’s identity, and the REAL Matthew Crooks may well be living in Aruba on our dime.

Didn’t he contact law enforcement THAT DAY to express concern about his son’s whereabouts?

There's a big difference between: "I don't know where my son is" and "My son has my AR15 and I think he's going to kill somebody today."

From the 5th Amendment of our Bill of Rights:

nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself

Even public statements to the press can bu used be prosecutors in a criminal trial.

He has a constitutional right to not speak. He's exercising that. His son is dead, with public pictures circulating showing his son dead with blood splattered on his head. His son attempted to murder a presidential candidate and did murder a highly respected family man and wounded other people. He is seriously exposed to potential criminal and civil liability as his rifle was used in his son's criminal acts. Trying to negotiate the grief of a dead son, the shame of what his son did, and the tension from public pressure and big time liability threats....not speaking makes absolute sense.

If someone has a 20 year old and they find it looks like he took the AR, for the parents to actually call the cops at that point can ONLY mean they did not trust him.

What drugs did he put his kid on? NO TOXICOLOGY REPORT, AND NO CALIBER ON THE AR15. IT TAKES MULTIPLE GRAIN ROUNDS.
My .38 carry piece doesn’t sound like a firecracker. Was a suppressor used?

“Whistleblower allegations suggest the majority of DHS officials were not in fact USSS agents but instead drawn from the department’s Homeland Security Investigations. This is especially concerning given that HSI agents were unfamiliar with standard protocols typically used at these types of events, according to the allegations.”
