Washington — Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle is testifying Monday before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee about the security failures that allowed a 20-year-old gunman to open fire on former President Donald Trump and a crowd of his supporters at a rally more than a week ago.
Cheatle has come under significant pressure to resign in the aftermath of the assassination attempt, in which Trump and two others were injured and one rally attendee was killed.
The FBI identified Thomas Matthew Crooks as the shooter, and he was killed by a Secret Service sniper. Lawmakers have questioned how Crooks was able to gain access to a rooftop so close to where Trump was speaking at the campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer told Cheatle directly that she should resign, saying that with her at the helm of the Secret Service, it is questionable whether the president, first lady, White House and presidential candidates are safe.

Complete waste of time.
Time to quit beating around the bush. Ask her, “Who in the Democrat party ordered the hit on Trump?”
Cheatle is doing the “Ongoing Investigation” BS answer. Well trained by myorkis..
That would be incredible! And pertinent to the matters at hand.
What a crock of crap- this is a worthless waste of time and money. The DEI head of Secret Service is providing no answers and the dems are only talking about gun control! What BS!
Buddy sent this last night - a very interesting look into the secret Secret Service Headquarters:
Dems still talking about gun control instead of the assassination attempt.
Usually we would have seen a picture of the gun used, especially if it were something scary looking.
Have any photographs of the gun been published?
Only in conjunction with the deceased perp i.e. it was in frame when the photo was taken. By all reports it’s a DPMS AR-15, which is a budget tier AR.
CC
Not that I've seen. I have also not seen or heard any other details, such as:
Caliber of the rifle? If it was an "AR-style", I would assume 5.56, but it could also have been a number of other calibers.
The number of rounds fired from Crooks' rifle?
Did he use a scope, or iron sights?
I’ve read that it was a Palmetto State Armory A-15 with a red dot optic. It would be nice to see it. Do you believe or will you believe anything, anything at all, that you’re told from an official DC source about this?
I’m so sick of this already. They’re always having hearings without success. The criminals are always testifying of their crimes and yet nothing is done. There is no accountability they remain defiant and dig their heels in! So saying that Trump better get himself a bulletproof plexiglass barrier around him when he holds rallies. These evil monsters will not stop at nothing! And when the cackling hyena poll numbers start tanking watch for the rabid evil dogs to try something else on Trump. So ladies and gentlemen get ready for the only thing they have left in their arsenal the GREAT STEAL in November!
Reportedly a Red dot.
repubs need to tell these dems that more guns equal less crimes...
Another corrupt DC agency that needs to have the top two floors fired.
the secret service cannot do their job without more guns
Connolly (D) from Va asking about firearms instead of attempted assassination. Waste of time.
We don’t know anything except what we’ve been told. It’s strange that the government hasn’t milked the whole “assault rifle” angle endlessly. You’d expect lots of photos of the big bad black rifle.
Snipers who saw that shot said it would have been easy with the right scope but much harder with iron sights or a red dot. Which did he use?
Why don’t we know?
The lack of basic information makes this whole incident more suspicious.
AND does this incident have anything to do with Joe “resigning”? Did the failed assassination have anything to do with yesterday’s events?
Those stupid RAT bastards are only focused on gun control.
Watching Connolly trying to get her to to state that guns in America are the problem.
