NATO’s false promises are encouraging misplaced Ukrainian hopes
POLITICO ^ | July 18, 2024 | Christopher McCallion and Benjamin H. Friedman

At the 2024 NATO Summit in Washington, commemorating the alliance’s 75th anniversary, leaders offered Ukraine a fresh round of false hope in its war against Russia — which is worse than doing nothing.

Whether by military commitment or intensified support, the pretension that NATO could currently deliver a Ukrainian victory, or secure one later, encourages the country’s leaders to postpone reckoning with their dire circumstances. Moreover, it threatens to further imperil NATO members without a security payoff.

After the failure of Ukraine’s counteroffensive in 2023, recognition that its forces cannot regain more of its territory has begun to sink in. Indeed, despite the flow of heavy Western aid, Kyiv may struggle to hold what it has — a circumstance that suggests it should start exploring negotiations with Moscow to end or even freeze the conflict via an armistice now, before the battlefield situation worsens and negotiating room shrinks.

Nonsense.

Ukraine’s military is very nearly the size of the US with 1.25million active duty and 2.5millon reservists. AND it receives thousands and thousands of tons of NATO weapons and the better technology than Russia.

Nothing. Just do not want any U.S. troops going to Ukraine. And no NATO troops either.

Then, I gurss you and I think alike.
But, the decisions about troops and where and when they're needed, are often dictated by the other side. We may not have a choice in the future but to engage. We didn't have a choice before WW2 either, before we had to engage.

Well then, you are actually making the point for me. The argument here and elsewhere has been that, Ukraine was running out of soldiers and weapons, but, you are stating the opposite. Thus, Russia is never going to win a war where the opposition is so fierce.

So, what were you referring to when you used the word 'nonsense'?

The EU and NATO are not fighting the "Ruskies". Russia would not have even entered one inch of Ukraine if the EU/NATO and the U.S. were officially the ones fighting Russia. If I'm the one with one brain cell, then you are the one with shit for brains.

Okay. Maybe you're not an imbecile -- you're a low-IQ, idiotic fool.

Now, that's better!

And you can tell us with a straight face that Victoria Newland and Sen. John McCain did not go to Kyiv and help overthrow a duly elected president and that US/NATO did not spend over ten years since arming and training the Ukies. And you tell us that the West has not sent billions and billions of our dollars as well as people and resources to fight the Ruskies?

Take your pick. You're either one heck of a liar or, even worse, much worse, an idiot and fool.

So, there! Put on your Zelensky queer pants and high heels and smoke that. We know how you swing.

Okay, if I'm an idiot and low-IQ...

that would make you a moron and brainless. Get it? No IQ at all.

What you provided is history or what might have transpired before Russia decided to INVADE Ukraine. Get it? It was an INVASION of an independent nation, by a despotic and aggressive nation.

So, your moronic thinking is that, what occurred before justified the invasion of a sovereign country by an aggressive neighbor. That is beyond brainless and should not even be uttered anywhere by anybody. Even a monkey would not suggest such a moronic move.

You support Russia's actions, and I support the Ukrainian people; not Zelensky and not whoever was there before. Support for Putin is at the same lever as supporting the devil. Grow a brain or just borrow one from a snake.

I'll see your 'nonsense' and raise it to at least twice the nonsense for what you said.

It's undeniable that Russia did have the more massive military and still does in the invasion. That Ukraine might be giving Russia more than they bargained for, does not change the fact that Russia did and does have the more powerful military. In fact, it's that military that Russians' neighbors fear so much, and so, they joined NATO do defend against it.

Denial of the facts doesn't change the facts. It's total nonsense, so, stop spewing it.

“Ukraine only had the forces of a minor military. “

Complete and utter nonsense.

They did, and do, have the biggest and most powerful military in Europe. Only Poland...due to its equipment stock...could conceivably defeat them.

You still don't understand.

Comparatively, Ukraine's military is a minor one when talking about Russia's military. If Ukraine did not have the help of NATO/U.S., Ukraine would be part of the Russian Federation by now.

Thank you. With your statement, you continue to support the well accepted notion that you are an idiot. Other than taking action to protect their interest by stopping the westward invasion of NATO right up to their doorsteps in Ukraine, tell us exactly what the Ruskies did that was despotic and aggressive since the fall of the USSR. Tell us exactly.

Further, tell us what any nation (that could) would do if missiles were placed right on their doorstep by an ever-expanding and threatening adversary. I know what they would do, but with your little bitty brain cells, I don't expect you to figure it out.

In the News/Activism forum, on a thread titled NATO’s false promises are encouraging misplaced Ukrainian hopes , adorno wrote:
So where’s Ukraine gonna get replacements?

Supposedly, Ukraine lost all their troops in the first year of the war, according to the many reports which had them suffering massive losses from which they wouldn't be able to recover. So, who the heck is doing the fighting NOW???

And, remember that Ukraine is not doing the fighting alone. But, officially NATO and the U.S. are not there.

So, where's Russia getting there 'replacements'? They've lost close to 500,000 killed and injured. That's close to 2.5 times the number of troops that the U.s. Marines have, and about the same number of troops/grunts in the U.S. Army.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, and their assistants in the Media and Biden regime are the only ones that claim such high losses for Russia. People have collected information on funerals in Russia, and burials, and the numbers are no where near that high. Russia's population is so much larger than the Ukraine's that it still has reserves to call up. When asked about the slow speed of the fighting, Putin said the speed of the fighting suits him and his purposes because it helps him conserve soldier's lives. The Ukraine does not have control over the speed of fighting, and lacks key assets light air defense and competitive quality and numbers of pilots and aircraft.

The Ukraine has far more trouble conscripting troops and can no longer replace what they lose in daily fighting. The war of attrition is being won by the Russians. There's no need to fight all the way down to the last Ukrainian. The Ukraine needs to negotiate for peace but NATO (Biden) won't let them.

Of course. They all have to be lying all the time. Can't trust anything that goes against your side and your views.

People have collected information on funerals in Russia, and burials, and the numbers are no where near that high.

Who collected? Who did the reports on those burials and funerals? Who went to all the hospitals and funerals and burials and COUNTED all the deaths and injuries. Oh, it must've been Putin himself, since you give him complete credibility on all matters concerning the invasion and the effort to take over Ukraine.

The only people who try to report the truth about what's happening in Russia and in the war, get arrested and prosecuted and imprisoned for 16 years, IOW, just being a reporter seeking the facts, gets you labeled a spy and imprisoned. That's the truth. It's in the news, dummy!

Purely IDIOTIC!

Russia's population is so much larger than the Ukraine's that it still has reserves to call up.

Yeah, sure. Russia is larger in population, but, not all of them are in the military and not all of them are willing to serve, and a lot of them prefer to flee than to fight in an unpopular war. Perhaps you can enlist and help Putin out.

When asked about the slow speed of the fighting, Putin said the speed of the fighting suits him

Hey, dummy, what else was he going to say? That his troops met with heavy resistance and heavy fighting and suffered major losses? You're becoming a bigger idiot with every word you say or write.

and his purposes because it helps him conserve soldier's lives.

Putin is just as big a liar as Karine J. Pierre. He's as big a fake as she is. Baghdad Bob was taught by Putin. And you are a perfect Baghdad Bod student.

The Ukraine does not have control over the speed of fighting, and lacks key assets light air defense and competitive quality and numbers of pilots and aircraft.

No shit Sheriock. Ukrain was and is a much smaller military and they expected that they wouldn't have to be in a war, so, why even bother to spend when they didn't have to? But now, the military weaponry rivals whatever Putin puts up and they're getting the planes and pilots, which I'm sure YOU and Putin won't appreciate.

The Ukraine has far more trouble conscripting troops and can no longer replace what they lose in daily fighting.

Yeah, that's what's been said for over 2 years now, and yet, the Russians are still having a very hard time even holding on to the 17.5 of Ukraine they took in the first 2 months of the invasion. Russia is losing more men on the battlefield than Ukraine, and those can't be replaced to make a difference.

The war of attrition is being won by the Russians.

Who the heck is giving you that information? Putin can't be believed on anything and you actually believe all his lies. The Russians are having a much harder time recruiting than the Ukrainians and are having to force men or all ages to the battlefield, with almost no training.

There's no need to fight all the way down to the last Ukrainian.

Yeah. They should just surrender and let Putin have his way and commit genocide in Ukraine to eliminate anybody that even frowns about Russia's takeover. If you had been there when the American revolution was taking place, we'd still be part of the original 13 colonies and ruled by England. No need to fight because, we might die. Dumb as hell!!!

The Ukraine needs to negotiate for peace but NATO (Biden) won't let them.

Biden is gone but the policies remain. Regardless, it's not a Biden administration problem. It's about an invasion of a sovereign country by a tyrannical regime which was/is hell-bent on reconstituting the Soviet Union.

Stop being so dumb and ask your mom to give you back the brain which she withheld from you in the womb.

People don't appreciate hearing from the brain dead. It's why Biden is gone and you should leave the stage too.

With your statement, you continue to support the well accepted notion that you are an idiot.

Hey, tha's exactly how Putin feels about my comments. You and Putin must be best friends.

Other than taking action to protect their interest by stopping the westward invasion of NATO right up to their doorsteps in Ukraine, tell us exactly what the Ruskies did that was despotic and aggressive since the fall of the USSR. Tell us exactly.

Hey, dipshit. Putin has said many times that the biggest mistake in the 20th century was the breakup of the Soviet Union, and he's undertaken actions to reconstitute the old Soviet Union. It's in the record. The aggression by Putin/Russia has been stated and their actions speak for themselves. Putin is a dictator and he has dreams of bringing back the old USSR, even if by a different name. Ukraine is one of the pieces on the road to Putin's dream coming true. Anybody that is not aware of that, is simply brain-dead.

Further, tell us what any nation (that could) would do if missiles were placed right on their doorstep by an ever-expanding and threatening adversary.

The missiles and any other buildup was to counter the aggressive nature of Putin and Russia. The missiles are purely defensive and meant to hold Russia at bay. Missiles are not aggressive; Putin is aggressive. Putin brought on the defensive strategies by the NATO forces. If Putin was not so aggressive, the missiles would not have been warranted. It's like a street fight, where the aggressor strikes first and the victim strikes back and then the aggressor accuses the victim of striking him. The victim then has the right to try to prevent future aggression by the aggressor. Hence, the missiles.

I know what they would do, but with your little bitty brain cells, I don't expect you to figure it out.

Actually, it's your lack of brain that has you unable to figure it out. I just laid out why NATO and Ukraine felt the need to defend themselves, and why Putin as the aggressor needed to be held back, with missiles and whatever else. When you are going to accuse others of having low brain capacity, just ask your mother why you got nothing at all for brains.

Well, that's disheartening, I was looking forward to some Museum putting that Last Ukrainian Alive on display.

I wonder if they'll leave the NATO knife in his back, or if they'll remove it for the Western Mainstream Media photographs?

Certainly, time will tell.
