The cosmos is providing a full moon for the 55th anniversary of the first lunar landing this weekend, and plenty of other events honor Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin’s giant leap.
Aldrin, 94, the last surviving member of the Apollo 11 crew, headlines a gala at the San Diego Air and Space Museum on Saturday night. He'll be joined by astronaut Charlie Duke, who was the voice inside Mission Control for the July 20, 1969 moon landing.
Museum President Jim Kidrick couldn’t resist throwing a bash “55 years to the day of one of the most historic moments in not only the history of America, but in the history of the world.”

Man never walked on the moon during a Full Moon
Gotcher best Moon movie right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zxAiUQu0v8
I was in Army basic training, it was a Sunday and we recruits had free time and my Dad brought down a transistor radio, a 6-pack of Coke and a bucket of KFC and we listened to the moon landing. Historic.

Now all we need is a Comanche raid!
For the 50th anniversary, the Washington Monument was lit up with an image of the Saturn V rocket. They did an awesome job. Of course Trump was President.
>>>I remember watching on our old Zenith 19-inch black-and-white TV.<<<
Anyone who was anyone had a Zenith TV!
Say nully, re the [upside-down] plumb bob, I linked that page to you < 15 min before this thread popped up. Not like the word ‘zenith’ floats around anywhere very often, but...
>>>The instrument has been used since at least the time of ancient Egypt[1] to ensure that constructions are “plumb”, or vertical. It is also used in surveying, to establish the nadir (opposite of zenith) with respect to gravity of a point in space.<<<

Thus when I was reading that page at the time, I thought...
Well with the natural order turned upside-down it would be a tell that it’s time to establish the zenith.
And here it is, over on this thread. 😉
It’s a full buck the system kind of day, innit. 😄
My folks had purchased a large Zenith entertainment color console a few months earlier. My mom grabbed the Polaroid and took a picture of Armstrong stepping off the lander. I still have it around somewhere.
I’d like a Moon Pie and an RC Cola right about now.
It’s nice to have a full moon tonight. I think I will take out the Cannon with the 300mm lens and get the photo in a perfectly clear Northwest sky—in honor of Man’s leap for all mankind!
My Dad and Mom, God rest their souls, bought a new color TV so that we could watch the launch.
The video from the Moon, of course, was black and white.
“Plumb”-ing is why Pb is the symbol for the element lead
We watched on our 1960 Sylvania Reflection-Free TV. I had a Webcor reel-to-reel tape recorder to record the audio off the TV’S audio output. I would love to find that reel.
This full moon is about the farthest south any moon can ever be. It’ll rise in the SE and set in the SW. The wintertime full moons rise NE and set NW.
I think it's easier for them to believe that the moon landing was a hoax than it is for them to accept that the country that once put men on the moon is no longer capable of doing so.
