“That’s because major portions of the airline’s computer systems are still using Windows 3.1, a 32-year-old version of Microsoft’s computer operating software,” the website said. “It’s so old that the CrowdStrike issue doesn’t affect it so Southwest is still operating as normal. It’s typically not a good idea to wait so long to update, but in this one instance Southwest has done itself a favor.”

3.1 has the distinct advantage of being 16 bit. When winnuke was popular people on irc were nuking each other, never got me tho..i use 3.1 :)

I was working in development when a Norton update introduced a virus. The message to us was “a bad update,” not “we included a virus in our update.”

Constantly replacing functioning things with new ones is good for the economy. /s

If Crowdstrike wasn’t able to take down Southwest Airlines, the airline that serves the REST OF THE COUNTRY, was it worth all they did?

One can see where Gate$ is interested in vaccines against viruses.

All of my systems — 2 laptops and a desktop — are Windows 7. People try to shame me into upgrading. And they’re the ones who have problems which I never do. (Knock wood.)

The best thing is that support ended years ago, which is great! Every time there was an update, I had more problems.

Also have an XP laptop I can’t use. It recognizes the strong internet signal but simply won’t connect. If I have to junk it I’ll suffer separation anxiety, I know.

Windows 7 had its issues too. Enough to cause me to switch to Linux Mint.

XP was probably the last really good version of Windows. Even better, IMHO but not recommended for the Internet, was Windows 2000 with no service packs applied.

Old, antiquated 20-30+ years old hardware and/or obscure/deprecated operating systems.

This is much more common than most people realize, not specifically windows, though.

There are things you probably wouldn’t be comfortable with were you aware.

Windows 3.1 ran on top of good old DOS.

You’d think everyone would run dual or backup systems so that system b can click in when system a fails?
