Hid father owned guns, including an AR, he probably learned to shoot like kids used to, with dad.

He shoots better than most marksmen. In a matter of seconds he trained his weapon away from the cop climbing onto the roof.
Then he went back to his position, regrouped on to his target, rescoped as necessary, then fired a bullseye at 135 yards.
I don’t see anything special in his shooting, in basic when my ancient open sight AR-15 jammed as we were shooting the 300 yard targets a range sergeant helped me unjam it, as I was standing there watching him I realized the target was going to drop in seconds, I snatched the rifle from him and hit it, standing instead of in the prone position and without careful aiming.
We don’t even know if Crooks was aiming at the head from that fairly close distance or if he was using open sights or a scope, but a close one out of several at that distance isn’t impressive.
The cop confronting the gunman is b.s. Unconfirmed.
“In a matter of seconds he trained his weapon away from the cop climbing onto the roof...”
The cops who curiously remain unidentified. Who are these heroes who boosted one up to peek over the roof... and then fell off and then did... nothing?
I’m getting a vibe from ‘Car 54, where are you?’
“Then he went back to his position, regrouped on to his target, rescoped as necessary, then fired a bullseye at 135 yards.”
Yeah, the look-away drill. It was routine when I was in the service. Hitting a man-sized target at 300m in the prone, with iron sights was also routine. And what bullseye? The shots were all over the place.
Then he went back to his position, regrouped on to his target, rescoped as necessary, then fired a bullseye at 135 yards.
Not difficult to do if you are committed.
The story of him "training his weapon on a cop" is being disputed.
There is no "rescoped as necessary". I am not even sure what that means.
We don't even know if he used an optical sight of any kind.
Very few optical sights would need any adjustment for a 130 yard shot.
