Blinken points to wider pledges to support Ukraine in case US backs away under Trump

Ukraine is on its way to being able to “stand on its own feet” militarily, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Friday, noting that more than 20 other countries have pledged to maintain their own military and financial aid to the country even if the U.S. were to withdraw its support under a different president.

Blinken for the first time directly addressed the possibility that former President Donald Trump could win the November election and back away from commitments to Ukraine.

Trump’s public comments have varied between criticizing U.S. backing for Ukraine’s defense and supporting it, while his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, has been a leader of Republican efforts to block what have been billions in U.S. military and financial assistance to Ukraine since Russia invaded in 2022.

OK, it’s their money. Why didn’t they meet the correct level for NATO membership before Russia went in?

If the other countries can do it without us, great. I have my doubts.

The Euros have money, armies and nuclear weapons. It’s their fight. They can handle this.

“Ukraine is on its way to being able to “stand on its own feet” militarily,”

They have been independent for over 30 years, and knew full well what Russia was, yet they did very little to build their defenses, did nothing at all when Russia stole the Crimea. They had several years to build up but did very little. Now they demand we ride to the rescue and do it for them, and still demanding we help. If that statement is true, then they won’t need us anymore.

"OK, it’s their money. Why didn’t they meet the correct level for NATO membership before Russia went in?"

NATO let Germany run short for years without funding the required 2% in their own defense budget. Back in February, Germany finally came up to par on that requirement, the first time since the Cold War ended. NATO has been extremely remiss these years in enforcing their own rules on member nations. It's time the U.S. got out of NATO.

I've asked the question many times, where is Ukraine going to get the money to meet that membership requirement? They're currently living off the American taxpayer.

What a sick joke. Trump is no doubt scaring the hell out of them by threatening their disgusting gravy train. It’s unreal how the will of the people truly means nothing to them. No normal people want us spending OUR money on an unwinnable war in Russia.

From the article: ...”his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, has been a leader of Republican efforts to block what have been billions in U.S. military and financial assistance to Ukraine since Russia invaded in 2022.”

Music to my ears. January 20th., can’t come fast enough.

Piss up a rope Zelensky.

The important part is that he is talking like Trump has already won the election.

Exactly. Zeepers are abnormal, insane, stupid or working to destroy America. You may pick more than one.

Maybe under President Trump, Viktor Orban will send Hungarian border guards to help secure our border. Allies helping allies.

And when President Trump pulls the CIA, US military advisors, and all reconnaissance assets from the Ukraine and threatens to pull out of NATO? What then Deep State? Also a president can fire any ambassador at any time.

Remember, the Republicans signed up and approved a Lame Duck Joe Biden erasing Ukraine’s Debts on the way out.

He pardons Hunter and transfers Ukraine’s Debt to US Citizens.
