The Secret Service was warned about Thomas Michael Crooks and designated him as a “threat” 10 minutes before former President Donald Trump took the stage, but allowed him to go on anyway, according to a new report.
The Fox News report, which comes from a stunning Senate briefing by the Secret Service on Wednesday, revealed that agents were fully aware of reports about Crooks.
The agency had identified Crooks as a “character of suspicion” more than an hour before Saturday’s deadly rally shooting but still let him go on stage.
“He was identified as a character of suspicion because [he had] a rangefinder as well as a backpack. And this was over an hour before the shooting actually occurred,” said Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.).

Answer could have meant death. Protection of a President is not a minor matter.
and did not keep trump off the stage till the guy was take into custody.

Another incredulous thing I read in some of the early reporting on this assassination attempt was that the Secret Service ROI (Rules Of Engagement) specify that they cannot fire until the suspect has fired first! I do not believe that for a second. It sounds like another CYA announcement from their incompetent leadership.
Pointing a deadly weapon at someone (Especially when the person pointing it is someone already demonstrating suspicious behavior) is a solid threat and grounds for use of lethal force to stop the threat.
(Unless the target is Trump, of course...)
As Bongino has said the SS was duty bound to clear the threat from the area before Trump was allowed on stage. How was it that they let Crooks wander around without confronting him, detaining him for the duration of the time Trump was on stage, and/or having someone at least shadow Crooks on the grounds? What did they already have on Crooks that caused them to believe he was a person of interest?
