Climate change is messing with time more than previously thought, scientists find

The impacts of human-caused climate change are so overwhelming they’re actually messing with time, according to new research.

Polar ice melt caused by global warming is changing the speed of Earth’s rotation and increasing the length of each day, in a trend set to accelerate over this century as humans continue to pump out planet-heating pollution, according to the study published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The changes are small — a matter of milliseconds a day — but in our high-tech, hyperconnected world have an important impact on computing systems we have come to rely on, including GPS.

It’s yet another sign of the huge impact humans are having on the planet. “This is a testament to the gravity of ongoing climate change,” said Surendra Adhikari, a geophysicist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and a report author.

The number of hours, minutes and seconds making up each day on Earth are dictated by the speed of the Earth’s rotation, which is influenced by a complex knot of factors. These include processes in the planet’s fluid core, the ongoing impact of the melting of huge glaciers after the last ice age, as well as melting polar ice due to climate change.

For millennia, however, the impact of the moon has dominated, increasing the length of a day by a few milliseconds per century. The moon exerts a pull on Earth causing the oceans to bulge towards it, gradually slowing Earth’s rotation.

Scientists have previously made connections between polar ice melt and longer days, but the new research suggests global warming is a bigger influence on time than recent studies have shown.

My libido has decreased a bit lately and climate change may be the culprit

The average person would probably have an ‘oh brother’ response. Only a loon could take this bit seriously. Climate Change “scientists” have truly jumped the shark & are making themselves look ridiculous.

I don’t think even Faux News is dumb enough to run with this nonsense.
But then again they did hire Donna Brazile and Paul Ryan.

I did notice how the summer days are getting shorter. Or is it longer?

Anyhow, somebody has to stop the world from changing, and perhaps one of the ways is to eliminate mankind. Or, perhaps just eliminate climate change researchers/ Nobody would notice any changes if those researchers were not looking for the changes.

Wonder if the dinosaurs noticed how the climate was changing, and if they did, why didn’t they do anything to prevent their own extinction?

Climate change is due to millions of natural causes (we humans are also natural), and determining which is the biggest cause of any changes, is IMPOSSIBLE. The sun and the planets and the stars and universe have something to do with it too, so, what scientist is capable ot determining how much they have to do with it? The Earth is in constant change, with tectonic plates doing their thing with no end, and volcanoes keep doing their thing too, and tornadoes and hurricanes have bee with the planet since it was created.

The planet is constantly changing is volume, with all kinds or matter raining down on us from who knows where. The size of the planet will be forever changing, and the climate will be affected by the changes.

If humans are causing climate change, what caused it to change in the 4 billion years prior? If humans do not consumer the planet’s energy sources, the planet will consume them for us. Stuck between a hard rock and a hard place. Climate change hoaxes need to be dumped into the nearest volcano, and the climate will not be changing after that.

OFFS! Yes we are all going to die it is our fate as mortals. But it will not be due to climate change.

Scientists have previously made connections between polar ice melt and longer days.

Scientists say another number needs to be added to clocks.

One logic triggers another

Utter bullsh!t. Science is where you start with the hypotheses and design experiments to test your hypotheses trying both to prove it and to disprove it, using the experimental results to determine if your hypotheses is correct or not.

Climate science is where you start with your hypothesis immediately conclude that it is correct, and the adjust your data and experimental protocols to support your conclusion.

I know a radical leftist named Gideon Polya. Known him for a long time. I recently challenged him on nuclear power vs so-called "renewables." That was a week ago and I haven't heard anything back from him yet.

Does this mean that when all the ice melts, most of the extra water will move to the equator, flooding them but not us?

Does that make me a climate scientist? Where’s my grant money?
