JD Vance Banned from Visiting Russia Despite Criticizing Ukraine
Newsweek ^ | Jul 16, 2024 | Isabel Van Brugen

Vance, 39, was named by presumptive Republican Party nominee Trump as his pick for vice president for the 2024 U.S. presidential election as the Republican National Convention kicked off in Milwaukee on Monday.

The senator was banned by Russia's Foreign Ministry from entering the country in May 2023 despite his strong opposition to U.S. support for Ukraine.

In May, Vance was among nearly 50 members of Congress added to a long list of lawmakers banned from entering Russia in retaliation for U.S. sanctions imposed on Moscow.

“ In response to the anti-Russian sanctions regularly introduced by the Biden administration, which are intended, according to Washington's plan, to inflict maximum damage on Russia by personally affecting officials and ordinary citizens of our country, entry into the Russian Federation for 500 Americans is being closed as a countermeasure," Russia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement at the time.

The foreign ministry added: "It is high time for Washington to learn that no hostile attack against Russia will go without a harsh response."

From that Newsweek article you posted:

<< When asked about the [2010] blog post, Vance told CNN: “It was a stupid opinion from 15 years ago when I was in my 20s. All anyone needs to do is check my voting record as a senator to see that I have consistently opposed increased immigration levels into America.” >>

Case closed.

Why not post the actual article, that goes with your/NewsWEAKs pitiful JD Vance smear piece (you posted only an image of) ???

Here you go .... the REST of the story ... 🙄

Senator J.D. Vance, an Ohio Republican, advocated to “massively increase” legal immigration in a 2010 blog post that resurfaced in a CNN report on Thursday.

Vance has emerged as a staunch ally to former President Donald Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, and his Make America Great Again (MAGA) campaign, which heavily supports anti-immigration policies.

The senator has even been floated as a potential running mate for Trump and supported him during his Manhattan criminal trial last month, which is in stark contrast to Vance’s anti-Trump social media activity from 2016 during Trump’s first presidential campaign.

Years before Vance was liking tweets calling then-presidential candidate Trump a “monster” and a “nemesis of the GOP,” which CNN recently uncovered, he called for more migrants to enter the U.S.

Vance, who was a student at the time, wrote in a post on Frum Forum, a conservative blog, in April 2010: “Border security is a good start, but if we plan to control the border, then we must also plan to massively increase the number of legal migrants allowed into the country.

He continued: “The day that America no longer welcomes decent, hardworking foreign nationals is the day that our nation loses something very central to its character and its economic diversity.”

When asked about the blog post, Vance told CNN: “It was a stupid opinion from 15 years ago when I was in my 20s. All anyone needs to do is check my voting record as a senator to see that I have consistently opposed increased immigration levels into America.”

If he were to go Russia, they would turn it into a Russia narrative.

Once elected, he should go to Russia, to China (like Nixon!) to North Korea (like Trump!) heck even Iran, Cuba, Venezuela to improve relations. That’s the point. No more bloodshed, or impending bloodshed.

As per usual, the Newsweek headline is misleading. It suggests that Vance was singled out for punitive action, which is garbage.

Vance was simply among a large cohort of US politicians who were told they were unwelcome. The Russians didn't go through the list with a fine toothcomb and try to separate the good guys from the bad guys. Vance was simply caught up in the tit-for-tat exchange.

American media is trash.

Trump’s choice of Vance ‘terrible news’ for Ukraine, Europe experts warn

Donald Trump’s choice of JD Vance as his vice-presidential pick has reignited fears in Europe that he would pursue a transactional “America first” foreign policy that could culminate in the US pushing for Ukraine to acquiesce to Vladimir Putin and sue for peace with Russia.

“It’s bad for us but it’s terrible news for [Ukraine],” said one senior European diplomat in Washington. “[Vance] is not our ally.”
