Take them to church
Don’t helicopter them
Provide strong adult guidance and supervision when needed

In one of his best anecdotes, he describes a conversation he had with a school teacher who had recently returned from a class trip to a tourist farm or rural state park somewhere. She noticed that the biggest troublemaker kid in her class was totally in his element there, and was the first to try all the most challenging things — horse riding, climbing trees, crossing a stream on slippery rocks, etc.
By the middle of the day, all the students were out of sight because they were all following him on an adventure he was leading through the woods. By the end of the day he was the most popular kid in the class. To her credit, that teacher realized that the whole education establishment has the wrong approach to teaching boys.
